"I have been home for two weeks, and I am already missing Peru and our wonderful hosts in Cusco! Our family of four with two teenage girls sought an authentic experience that connected us with the culture and people of Cusco. Mission accomplished! We were warmly welcomed at the airport after a long flight, and we immediately felt at home in this apartment. It holds a family very well, with each of us having enough space to relax after a busy day exploring wonderful Cusco. Having a kitchen allowed us to prepare our own breakfast (when we didn't splurge on chocolate croissants at the bakery Qosqo Maki). The furniture is new and clean and the space very well appointed.
Location is everything, and this apartment could not be better positioned to enjoy Cusco and yet escape the tourist crowd. It is just a short walk to Plaza de Armas, and an even shorter walk to San Blas Language School where our girls took Spanish (wonderfully arranged by Patricia, our host). A public market is just five minutes away if you want to pick up fresh food for a delicious dinner at home. Our kids quickly discovered La Esquina, a cafe serving homemade ice cream just 3 minutes from the apartment. You must try the lucuma ice cream for a truly local experience (delicious!). Laundry service is available at the end of the block. We always felt safe.
This apartment had the "home away from home" trifecta: comfortable space, nearby food and sights, and most importantly, a wonderful family. We loved getting to know Patricia and her family, and we greatly appreciate their warm generosity in sharing their language and culture with us. Our kids connected with their kids, and we all enjoyed the exchange of hobbies and music that comes when teenagers connect across cultures. Thinking back on our time in Peru, Machu Picchu was breathtaking, and we loved Ollantaytambo's rushing water and impressive ruins. But it is Patricia and her family who make me smile the most."
