The House of Bamboo is truly a paradise here on earth!

A beautiful location plus amazing people and superb accommodations equals pure bliss!! We felt that warm hospitality months before we stepped foot in Fiji, as we began communicating with the owner, Bruce. His love for the island shines through in the care he gives to his property and those who are lucky enough to rent it for a moment in time. The house itself gives you a sense of your own lil' private space on the island, yet the real beauty lies right outside your door. From dips in the infinity pool and endless sunsets to doing morning meditation and yoga on the deck, we found ourselves spending plenty of time just enjoying nature and its breathtaking view. Trekking up and down the stairs each day gave us a sense of adventure whether it was to grab a taxi into town to shop the outdoor market, or to take the SUPs and kayaks across the road to paddle the sea. We also had the opportunity to visit some beautiful villages with our friend, Tia, who gave us the experience an authentic kava ceremony and a swim in a tranquil waterfall. We can honestly say that allowing Kalesi to prepare you an authentic meal, getting a massage from Viri, or just having an afternoon chat with Jolene can bring a smile to your face. Each of these lovely ladies made our stay even brighter than we could have imagined. The House of Bamboo was the perfect getaway for us to really relax, escape...and just enjoy being in love while living life!

                            Amazing Fiji getaway

                            5 of 5
I wanted my kids to experience the real Fiji, away from the tourist/resort stuff. The Salt Lake Lodge was exactly what I was looking for, something laid back and out of the way yet still comfortable. Ac and the staff were very accommodating. My kids went fishing and swimming almost every day, and we took little adventures with Solo to go to the waterfall or snorkel at split rock. That lake is no joke - it is huge and you have almost the entire thing to yourself. We opted for the chef every night, and Jose did not disappoint. Each time we mentioned little things we liked or didn't like, they were able to adjust quickly. I was particularly impressed at how many creative ways they were able to make things like cakes without eggs for my daughter that has an egg allergy. The food was comparable to a night out a restaurant every night. They even did a great job preparing the fish we caught. I decided not to rent a car, which worked out great since the staff was available to help take us places, but I can see how some people might prefer to do more themselves and make their own meals. We were initially concerned about the drinking water, but they assured us it was collected rain water, and sure enough, it tasted great and none of us got sick. They also have bottled Fiji water if you prefer, but I couldn't taste the difference. The showers are solar powered, which was kind of interesting. The only thing that didn't work out without a hitch were the bicycles. I think they need new chains or something and the pump didn't work. But my kids had more than enough to do, collecting crabs from the beach and playing with the three dogs. Little things I'll remember, like being able to play music over their bluetooth speaker, or being able to grab a beer, or watch a couple movies at night on the comfy couches in the screened in room surrounded by the sounds of the forest. Or reading books on those chairs floating on the river's edge in the mornings. Tip: bring some insect repellent. And don't expect much internet connectivity (which was a plus for my iPhone addicted kids) If you are still trying to decide, just go. You will have fun and be amazed.
