  • Wonderful Condo!

"We stayed in 506 from Tuesday through Sunday and had a wonderful time. My wife and I slept in the master, with our 1 year old conveniently close in a pack-n-play just inside the master closet. Our in-laws slept in the other bedroom, with two teenage boys bunking in the bunk beds. I think this condo is just about perfect. On the fifth floor, it is high enough to leave the blinds open at night and not worry about folks looking in, yet it is low enough to skip the elevators and use the stairs. The trash chute is literally right outside the door and very convenient, and being located between the two banks of elevators we made use of the less busy one (and the less busy walkway to the beach). The beach is wide, the sand is white, and being in the Gulf, the waves are calm. We went in late Sept, and the beach wasn't crowded at all. Lighthouse offers umbrella and chair rentals, but we didn't opt for that and I am very glad. Those chairs are so far from the water you can't even see the waves due to the sand. We brought our own chairs and umbrella, and while it is a pain to shuttle all the gear back and forth morning and evening, this is the route I'd recommend if you're in decent physical condition. We took the boys on an excursion to see the USS Alabama and the USS Drum over in Mobile Bay. If you do this, plan to spend at least a half day. I know my wife's favorite part of the trip was the excellent food nearby and sunning on the beach, but mine was definitely seeing 16 inch guns & 2700 lb bullets on a 90 million pound battleship. Truly an awesome sight to behold, and very cool to be able to get below decks and really check it out. We used the grills outside lighthouse, and the grilling tools in the kitchen were very handy. The kiddie pool was awesome for our little crawler (who loves sand a little too much...), and the fitness center was well stocked and easy to access. If you're into fitness, run the stairs at least a couple times from the 1st to 17th floor (time to beat is 1:56 :)). If you've got kids, bring a flashlight and a bucket and go out next to the waves at night and let them catch sand crabs. Those jokers are FAST, and provide a lot of squeals and some good times. Walk up to the pier at dawn or sunset - you'll be glad you did. And get the fried sampler from the Shrimp Basket - it's awesome. Overall I think you'll have a great time!"

  • Best of both worlds!

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This place was fantastic! We made a last minute reservation and at the recommendation of the agent I spoke with we booked this unit. It was absolutely gorgeous! Walk to the beach on one side or fish off the pier on the other. My only complaint was that there was not any instructions on how to use the elevator code or how to operate the unit's door code. It took several tries to figure out. It was unlike any door security system I've ever seen and we've stayed in many over the years. Other than that, I can't sing enough praises."

  • Quiet Country Fun

"My wife and I stayed with Papa Roy late October for two nights and it was much better than expected. Papa Roy did everything needed to insure our stay was a great one. We barbequed both nights, used the kayak both days, and just enjoyed the solitude. Our talks with Papa Roy alone were worth the trip. The Elberta Market has great meats and sundries, but if you have to have something special bring it with you.(ie. alcoholic beverages)! It was so quiet at night. Awesome! Loved this place. Will be back."
