"I’ve just returned from my grand adventure at Whale Point Cabin. Out of six trips to Alaska, this one was the show stopper. Bill Cahill is the best host that I’ve had in all of my travels, barring none. He went out of his way to help me coordinate my transportation from Ketchikan to Prince of Wales Island. He answered my many questions and provided information that enhanced my stay.
Whale Point Cabin is a cozy, well equipped cabin with an astounding view of Clarence Straight, Mountains and peaks of Canadian glacial mountains 65 miles away on a clear day. I watched humpbacked Whales feed every day with frequent sightings of Orcas, seals, the resident Eagle behind the cabin and the neighborhood Sitka Blacktail fawn that ate carrots from my hand and liked to be scratched behind her ears.
I fished, hiked and explored the island from Red Lake to Whale Pass, Thorne Bay, the El Capitan Caves, the Klawock, Thorne and Neck Rivers and numerous creeks and lakes. Fresh caught Silver Salmon were smoked regularly on the smoker at the cabin. I enjoyed many evening fires while watching the whales frolic and listening to them sound out in Clarence Straight. The majesty of Whale Point Cabin and the Prince of Whales is unparalleled.
For the artist and photographers, Prince of Wales Island provides infinite opportunities and inspiration. I shot volumes of sunsets, sunrises and wildlife from Whale Point Cabin, scratching the surface of the infinite material that abounds there alone. The same is true for opportunities to fish for salmon, trout, halibut and crab.
I could write pages upon pages of what I saw and experienced during my stay at Whale Point Cabin. However, the best recommendation that I can give is to contact Bill Cahill at Whale Point Cabin and book a stay. It will be the experience of a lifetime that you won’t soon forget."
