"Title says it all. Ruby and her hubby met us and gave us the lowdown on the town , places to eat, things to do. Their home is awesome, great views of the bay with Binoculars for whale watching from the desk in the study. Big windows facing the bay, but in town, so close enough to walk to shops, the grocery store and even head out on trails to hike. Restaurants Ruby and I recommend "The Soup Cup" in walking distance and "The Mermaid" on the "Spit" just to name two. We did not have a bad meal while here and only cooked twice. Homer is a beautiful small town and the climate is fantastic. The days are long with almost 20 hours of light, but for this stay, 24 would have been better. I didn't want to leave and WILL be going back. Needed a pot to cook crab legs, Ruby had one, complete book of things to do trails to hike in the study. We did the Halibut, Rock Fish and Salmon charters and caught lots of fish. If you fish, there are several processing places where for $2.00 per pound they will skin, vacuum pack, freeze and box for checked baggage any fish you want to bring home. we returned with 75 pounds of Halibut and salmon fillets. Having a house to come back to after all day on a boat in the bay was just great, couldn't have been better. Love the house, Homer, the people and the "Spit".
My dream is to follow the whales....Alaska in the summer...... Hawaii in the winter......check it out you'll agree.
PS my wife said she slept better in Rubys bed than at home in ours!"
