  • It's a wowser!!

"The casita, the location, Claire and Larry, and the setting are simply wonderful. How wonderful? The acid test: We have already made our reservation to return next year and for a longer stay. Set against the Tortelino Mountains, with the Santa Catalinas, the Santa Ritas, the Rincon and the Tucson mountains on the horizon you cannot find a better place to be. There is a 2 mile walking loop through the desert, starting at the front door. Within 10 minutes we were at the trail head in the Tortelinos, and within 15 minutes at one of the trailheads in the Santa Catalinas. The tennis court is right outside the backdoor. Downtown Tucson is 25 minutes away. In 5 minutes you can be at a first rate supermarket. Sitting on the patio, we spotted 27 species of birds, many rabbits and lizards. Javelinas and deer and who knows what else are in the wilds nearby should you wish to seek them out. Cactus is in abundance. Claire and Larry are gracious and always ready to help if needed. Their house is situated so you and they have complete privacy. The casita is very comfortable, informal , and had almost everything we needed to make our stay very, very pleasant. The kitchen is well stocked. The beds are great. Having the guest bedrooms and bath off a separate hallway of the casita gave us and our visitor’s their own space. We just loved the place and our stay."

  • Living in a Wonderland

"The most fascinating place we've ever stayed. Never a dull moment, the multitude of birds and wildlife kept us entertained daily. I added over 30 new species to my life list, and they were up close and personal. No scanning the treetops with binoculars. They came right to the feeders within feet of the windows and screened porches. The acorn woodpeckers are like cartoon birds, and the hummingbirds were so numerous, we often had 8 or 9 at one feeder. We saw kit foxes and had visits from a coati and collared peccaries. Too many new critters to enumerate here. The house suited us admirably. Bright, clean and simple. Easy to care for and very comfortable. We loved the screened porches, with the 270 degree vistas and wildlife. Flux Canyon is a great place to walk and hike, and only a couple miles to Patagonia for groceries, library, galleries, etc. 18 miles from the border, and Nogales, it's easy to visit Mexico. And of course, it is in the heart of the sky islands, surrounded by other mountain ranges, all fascinating. I guess I can't say enough about what a find this place was and how lucky for us that we were able to rent it for the month of February. I tell folks it was like living in the middle of an aviary."
