  • Fantastic stay in an straight-out-of-a-magazine mid century architectural gem

"We had a wonderful stay with our family of 6 (4 adults / 2 kids 7 & 11). The vibe of the house was excellent - we loved the architecture, floor to ceiling windows, spacious rooms, and great views. We were fortunate to have perfect Tucson hot weather - a nice relief from the East Coast chill. The deck was nice to spend time out on, and the pool area was perfect for us - nice chairs and umbrellas under a cloudless sky. And pool time was great - we went in several times per day with the pool heated. Plenty of pool toys and lots and lots of towels which let us avoid having to constantly do laundry. The mid-century decor was perfect down to the details - Eames chairs and a great double-sized built in sofa in a living room with plenty of room for all of us to hang out. We loved the aesthetic of the desert landscaping and our kids got a kick out of seeing a few lizards scurrying around. The Foothills area where the house is located is a beautiful area not too far from everywhere. First time back in Tucson since college in the 90s, and the town has really grown and developed significantly. Excellent food shopping nearby down the road from the house at Bashas, and nice spa luxuriating at the Spa at Lowe's Ventana Canyon. Loved brunch at Prep & Pastry (hip & tasty). Downtown has grown in a major way - we enjoyed grilled cheese on an inside out donut with local beers and craft whiskey at Batch, yummy Poke and creative sushi at Obon, and a fun visit to the legendary Hotel Congress. Real deal Mexican Food at BK, and an enjoyable breezy night game of UofA Softball on campus. And oh yeah: In-N-Out Burger - because Double Double [Protein Style] (undeniable). Nice treats in the fridge upon arrival, and small house requests were easily and quickly fulfilled by Anne. We'd be happy to come back again!"

  • Perfect for Older Kids and Nature Lovers!

"This was "home base" for my 12-year-old and I for 7 nights in June. The location is wonderful, with grocery stores & restaurants 10 minutes away. Even better, there is nothing between Saguaro Park West and the home, allowing us to encounter wildlife we would not have seen otherwise. The gated neighborhood is very quiet, private, and secure, so I was comfortable leaving my son alone in the house while I hiked. For my son, the (incredibly clean) pool was his favorite part, it has deep section for diving. The pool table was a hit, too. Ron set us up with hundreds of digital movies, as well as Netflix access and more, so my son was never "bored." The internet in the home is very fast, reliable, and reaches well out into the yard and pool area. As for me, in the yard and immediate area I was able to see a family of javelina (with babies!), a kit fox, a coyote, and a pair of mule deer. A few hours after we left, Ron even sent us a photo of a bobcat he spotted right outside the house! There are resident Gambel's Quail, hummingbirds at the feeder, and every dusk a Common Poorwill gets a "fly-by" drink from the pool. You can park along the road leading to the home for a quick hike into the hills and washes. There are nice geological samples there, with an amazing variety. As some reviews have mentioned, the house is not perfect. It is not new construction, some of the furnishings and appliances are not brand new. However, at least when we stayed, the cost was the same per night as a single room at the Westin downtown - for a huge house with a quiet yard and a private pool, and the option to cook your own food. So while the fridge was missing some shelves and drawers, it kept our food and drinks cold. While the starters on the stove clicked the entire time you used the burners, it always started and worked fine. The beds were very comfy, the water pressure was great, and the AC never failed us. Some things need repair, some furniture may need replaced in a few years, but this is a popular rental in a popular area, and I am sure some renters are not as careful or conscientious as they could be. If you want the quality of the Peninsula Hotel, but the size of a huge house, you will need to look elsewhere - and expect to pay a great deal more. If you are looking for privacy, space, and comfort in a perfect desert setting, where you can cook your own food and wash your own clothes - at a very fair price! - this is it. Ron will take very good care of you."

  • Ventana Condo #1131

"We had a lovely visit at Karine's Condo. The condo was super clean and equipped with everything we needed. The pictures on the VRBO are exactly what we discovered when we first opened the door. We did have one surprise, a couple of Javelina's came to visit one morning on the patio. My husband was cooking bacon and because it was a 67 degree morning, he opened the patio door with the screen still shut for some nice cool air. We did not see them again, however. Lesson learned, do not cook where they can smell any kind of odor. It was very nice to have covered, shaded parking right by our condo. We met a couple of the neighbors and other tenants as we took our daily morning walk. Sabino Canyon Park trail is very close so we also went walking there. Karine was very prompt on answer emails and even provided a small bed for our 6 year old grandson to spend the night. He thought that was pretty special!! We hope to return in the near future. Thank you. Marilyn and Augie Blanchat/Wichita, Kansas"

  • Perfect fit for family of six

"I chose this rental because of its perfect design for an extended family of 6; our son, wife and two grand daughters (3 & 7). It has a large center living room and spacious remodeled kitchen, both bedrooms & baths are located on either side of the living room and that provides for a very nice and private layout. My son and wife wanted this Casita because their bedroom had two beds in it, much better when traveling with small children than trying to get them to stay in their own room in a new place. We came in Mid-June for a 3 day event at the JW Marriott, a short 2 min. drive away. The kids played daily in the olympic size pool and made lots of new friends. Being from Hawaii the children and my daughter in law have never seen many animals like squirrels, coyotes, Calif. Quail although we do have pigs in Hawaii that are similar to their cousins the Arizona Javelina's. We got to see all of these beautiful animals right outside the back sliding glass door, it was a wonderful experience for the girls. The kitchen in this rental is better stocked than ours at home, complete with bakeware, tupperware, lots of dishes and lovely glasses. We ate all meals in for the week that we were there and even had two friends that live in Tucson over for a bar-b-que on the last night. The floors throughout the units and patio have all been recently remodeled with lovely new terra-cotta tile and Arizona flagstone, yet again another reason for choosing this one over some of the others with white carpet... The bathroom was large enough to have a party in and the A/C keep us comfortable day and night. Debbie the owner was very easy to deal with and made our stay seamless. Here's to hopping that they have the event at Starr Pass JW Marriott again next year because we would love to come back and stay again. Thanks Debbie for allowing us to stay in your "Starr Pass Casita" it is a little slice of heaven in the middle of the desert."
