  • Ecletic, Large Ranch on the Outskirts of Tucson

"We were a party of 6 adults and 1 infant. We chose to stay at this property because it was cheaper than booking individual hotel rooms, and we could all stay together. Plus, it looked beautiful! The beauty of the setting was amazing. There were great views of the mountains out of the kitchen, and a wonderful outdoor deck. Unfortunately, it was unseasonably chilly when we visited, so we were unable to throw open all of the doors and windows and soak in the desert heat on the back deck. But, it looks like a fantastic house to do so. The house is extensive, with a long hallway, 4 bedrooms, and plenty of skylights. Features we liked about the house: --the wooden beams in the ceilings --the pretty tilework in the kitchen --the lighting --4 bedrooms and 2 baths. --the large shower in the master bathroom --the ability to eat as a family at the dining room table --the large sectional couch --the abundance of nature (saw coyotes, a roadrunner, lots of birds, bunnies, etc) --the large saguaros on the property --the porches and courtyard Features that we wished we had known before booking the property: --the bedrooms and master bath are connected with doorways without doors. It made using the master bath awkward when someone was in the adjoining bedroom. --the owner stayed on property with us, living adjacent to the house in a connected guesthouse. He was very private about it, but it was still a little weird sharing our rental home with someone. --we wished we hadn't been admonished with signs and verbal instructions to not adjust the heat over 60 degrees. With our infant, we felt guilty turning it up, and indeed, when the owner came in to make a repair, he turned the heat off completely because we had a door open with the heat running. It seemed as if we couldn't relax at the house and do what we wanted. The house is about a 15-20 minute drive to restaurants, grocery stores, etc. There is one sandy lane nearby that is good for walking on. The property is, I believe, several acres, but all we could find was one small path to walk on and enjoy the desert scenery. Maybe we missed the rest. Overall, it was a great find for the price, and definitely gave us the experience of staying as a local, at a large sprawling adobe ranch, complete with cacti and locally-crafted features. I'm not sure if we would stay there again, as we ended up going to town a lot to hike, eat, shop, etc. But we were satisfied with our trip and the owner was very friendly and helpful."

  • Great location and great host

"It's true, Su Casita is small, but had everything that I needed, and a lovely sun-filled deck to read, drink coffee (or whatever the beverage choice may be), eat, etc. It is within walking distance to 4th St area and UA, and you can also hop on the streetcar that is a quick 4ish block walk if you don't want to walk anymore than that. When going farther afield I used Uber and also rented a car for one day so that I could go to a couple of places on my own (the rental rate was $21 for the day, after taxes, so cheaper than Uber for my purposes that day)! Thanks to Michael for providing Su Casita to travelers. He was always quick to respond to any questions I had. I came to Tucson to explore a place I had never been and to both "disconnect" and "recharge." Mission accomplished - fun adventures, interesting converations with locals and visitors alike, great food, going to a family circus (Zoppe!), and the opportunity to particpate in the Women's March on Washington - Tucson. Having such a convenient and comfortable place to return to each night topped off each day. Would not hesitate to stay there again if I return to Tuscon solo."

  • A Total Delight

"A pure delight for 5 weeks in Dec/Jan., in the apt above the house, with two lovely outdoor patio views for any time of day or evening. Their description is quite accurate, but what Barbara and Joe do not highlight enough is the beautiful five acres of desert nature surrounding them, which they own: Birds and coyotes and rabbits have the run of the place, and behind the house is a delightful wash which for us ran at least half the time in the rainy spells and well thereafter, a clear noisy creek with riparian habitat--a lovely desert combination. The owners could not have been more helpful. Quiet, a nice part of "town, " really country. We loved it. Mike and Stephanie"

  • Wonderful stay in desert paradise

"We enjoyed staying in Meg's home and the location and outside space was wonderful for hiking and relaxing amid the desert and wide open skies. Meg was very personable and welcoming to us. The beds were very comfortable for good night sleeps. We loved hiking nearby into the trails in the park. We would stay here again"
