  • Fantastic stay in an straight-out-of-a-magazine mid century architectural gem

"We had a wonderful stay with our family of 6 (4 adults / 2 kids 7 & 11). The vibe of the house was excellent - we loved the architecture, floor to ceiling windows, spacious rooms, and great views. We were fortunate to have perfect Tucson hot weather - a nice relief from the East Coast chill. The deck was nice to spend time out on, and the pool area was perfect for us - nice chairs and umbrellas under a cloudless sky. And pool time was great - we went in several times per day with the pool heated. Plenty of pool toys and lots and lots of towels which let us avoid having to constantly do laundry. The mid-century decor was perfect down to the details - Eames chairs and a great double-sized built in sofa in a living room with plenty of room for all of us to hang out. We loved the aesthetic of the desert landscaping and our kids got a kick out of seeing a few lizards scurrying around. The Foothills area where the house is located is a beautiful area not too far from everywhere. First time back in Tucson since college in the 90s, and the town has really grown and developed significantly. Excellent food shopping nearby down the road from the house at Bashas, and nice spa luxuriating at the Spa at Lowe's Ventana Canyon. Loved brunch at Prep & Pastry (hip & tasty). Downtown has grown in a major way - we enjoyed grilled cheese on an inside out donut with local beers and craft whiskey at Batch, yummy Poke and creative sushi at Obon, and a fun visit to the legendary Hotel Congress. Real deal Mexican Food at BK, and an enjoyable breezy night game of UofA Softball on campus. And oh yeah: In-N-Out Burger - because Double Double [Protein Style] (undeniable). Nice treats in the fridge upon arrival, and small house requests were easily and quickly fulfilled by Anne. We'd be happy to come back again!"

  • Delightful Diversion in the Desert

"Mr. McElwaine's deluxe casita at Starr Pass Resort was a wonderful vacation for us for the entire month of June 2016. Everything we needed for a relaxing getaway was provided, included a fully furnished kitchen, comfortable living room, tv's in each of the three rooms, and patio with outstanding view of the mountains. The location on the west side of Tucson is very convenient to most of the city and suburbs, and we were downtown or on the interstate in minutes - something you can't say about the other resorts we visited located on the north or east side of town. While wifi is not provided, we took the free Marriott shuttle several times up to the main resort and used the internet in the lobby or Starbucks. We also took advantage daily of the wonderful, large pool and exercise room mere steps from our door. A nice surprise was the appearance of a number of desert animals visible from our patio: javelinas, deer, coyotes, road runners and many types of birds. I appeciate the fact that the designers of the complex tried to leave the desert untouched which allowed the wildlife to exist as always in spite of the development. Dave, the owner, stopped in to check on us during our stay, giving us ideas on where to eat and what to see. His son, who lives in the vicinity, was helpful when there was a problem with the cable tv reception, and the problem was resolved quickly. The monthly charge for this 2 br, 3 ba condo was very competitive for the area and allowed us to enjoy a month here, rather than a week or two which had been our original plan. I would recommend this casita to any one of my friends looking for a long or a short stay in Tucson."

  • Our own private resort!

"Our family of seven spent a week here for a family reunion and to celebrate our mother's 90th birthday. It was the perfect choice! The neighborhood is quiet and safe. Every morning my sister and I walked through the area and enjoyed the abundant wildlife and gorgeous homes. The road is for residential access so there was very little traffic or noise. Each morning we had breakfast on the patio area next to the pool. It was like being at our own resort! The home is made from gorgeous adobe blocks and has such character. The decor and original artwork made it fell exotic and homey at the same time. We used the pool every day - even my mother lounged on a pool float and soaked in the sun! Although the home is on a secluded road it is convenient to drive to grocery stores, restaurants, and malls within minutes. My husband and I lived in Tucson for almost 20 years and know how rare it is to find a home on a large piece of property that offers privacy but also convenience. The three bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. The weather reached nearly 100 degrees that week but the home stayed cool most of the day with only a few hours of cooler use. We opened the windows at night and it smelled glorious! Bonnie was a gracious and communicative hostess. I typically am wary of any type of internet bookings but she provided all the information I needed to contact her and called both before and after our trip to ensure we were happy. Future trips to Tucson will definitely be planned around Hacienda Vista Lejos' avaialblity."
