  • Perfect House for a Large Family

"My family, in-laws and mother in-law recently stay here(total of 12 - youngest was 20). We will be back for sure. My family (this crowd) have rented beach houses in the Carolina's for about 20 years now. From the Outer Banks of NC, Emerald Isle, NC, Oak Island NC, Litchfield Beach SC, Pawley's Island SC and Fripp Island SC. Prior to leaving, we all agreed that this house by far has been the best. Why the best? It has a lot of space in which everyone can spread out across multiple common rooms/decks. No one ever gets that 'on top of one another' feeling. My mother in-law uses a walker to get around and having an elevator between the main floors significantly increased her mobility and improved the quality of not only her time, but time spent with the entire family. I won't go into all of the amenities, the description is spot on. We've found our new Carolina's beach getaway. I would strongly recommend this to any large family/group especially if there are members with mobility issues."

  • Absolutely everything we wanted - plus pelicans!

"Six of us - two grandparents, two parents, and two primary-age children - spent a happy week here at the end of June. The privacy of the place, the beauty of the lake, and the comfort of the cabin were all much treasured. We saw deer, foxes, pelicans, terns, wild turkey, pheasant, raccoons, and seagulls. What a delight to be in an environment that hasn’t been poisoned by toxic chemicals. Yes, there are a few spiders on the deck - as another guest has noted. One goes out in the morning and sweeps down the webs. No big deal. The cabin smelled fresh - no musty odors. We found generous supplies of toilet paper and paper towels in the kitchen closet, as well as clean towels and extra blankets in the two linen closets. Cooking gear and dishes were also generously supplied. A couple of fix-it problems came up and the housekeeper worked with us to resolve them. As I am disabled, I was happy to have a main-floor bedroom and bathroom with a walk-in shower. I was also delighted to have an Ekornes Stressless chair on hand - that’s where I spent most of the week. The beach at the cabin is rocky and the charming Liberty Grove Town Park - maybe a 10-minute walk - has a sandy beach. We found a trail from the south end of Nor-Dor Road that led down into Newport State Park, with more wonderful rocky beaches. Additional local attractions: the Shoreline Restaurant, Charlie’s Smokehouse, and the coffee shop, all in in Gills Rock; the Pioneer Store in Ellison Bay; Seaquist Orchards and the Door County Creamery in Sister Bay; the Ridges Nature Sanctuary in Bailey’s Harbor. This cabin has a unique history. We enjoyed reading stories in the guest book about its past years. It’s not perfect - no summer rental is perfect - but we found much to love and we’d go back in a minute."

  • Skytop house

"This large house is the closest house to the Skytop lodge. It takes about two minutes to walk to the lodge. Great house. Plenty of space for large families or even a couple of families. Really nice setting and the house has everything you need for a short or long visit. We have gone two years in a row and are planning to go back again. Perfect location to all of the activities in the area. The lodge offers free transportation to/from the house to Skytop events. Highly recommend."

  • Great Beach House

"We stayed at the Happy Heron for 17 days in September. It was a great beach house. It had been very nicely remodeled inside. The house had a lot to offer: the pool and hot tub which were cleaned twice a week and had plenty of pool furniture; exactly 5 minute walk to a quiet beach; everything in the house worked; NO STEPS; very clean; nicely furnished and in a very quiet established residential area near Coligny. The best part was that the owners lived on the island. Would not hesitate to rent this home again. Thanks Margo and Jim."
