  • House-Cottage Combo worked well for our first family reunion

"My three kids and their families, 6 adults, a teenager, and three kids, fit easily into this facility (with one king bedroom to spare). The family with the only teenager stayed in the cottage (away from the noise and commotion of the little ones), but joined in the meals and other activities. The accommodations in all of the rooms were excellent, and the kitchen facilities were clean and complete. Everyone wanted and used the available online service. When I booked this place, I was unaware that the annual Car Show was going to be held in Pismo Beach the very same weekend as my rental. On Saturday and Sunday after about 10 AM, the entire downtown was a madhouse and traffic there was impossible. Fortunately this rental is nearly a mile north of town center, so once we had the provisions for our stay, we were not very affected by the crowds. The local beach is accessible from this rental via a short walk and 122 steps down a sturdy wooden stairway. We used that beach every day, and it was never crowded. The beach toys in the garage were more than adequate for our crew, and we used them a lot. Swing sets on the beach were within walking distance on the beach (about 3/4 mile). The kids also enjoyed Dinosaur Park at Shell Beach a little over a mile (on a sidewalk if you walk) from the house. Kayaking and ATV rentals were available nearby (although we never got around to them), but we did use the free tennis courts only a short drive away in town. There are TV sets in every bedroom and in the living room as well, but only the one in the living room had a DVD player. It was old, but it did work. (I showed old family movies converted to DVD's every evening.) A great venue for this sort of gathering!"

  • Great house for a family with a view of Morro Bay

"It is a great place to stay because of its location, house layout and how it is stocked. The house was very clean and well maintained. The one issue we had with an umbrella on the porch was very quickly repaired. I would recommend this for families with small children."

  • Great location, nice people

"Located down a private lane off a main road in Montecito, this place is ideally located. Close to Santa Barbara in an amazing neighborhood up in the hills a bit. The cottage is quaint, well-appointed and taken care of. The yard and landscaping are nice and outdoor meals by the pool are fantastic in this weather. The owner, Carla, is very accommodating and super friendly. The only drawback was the number of people who seem to be renting places on this property. There are many other tenants who seem to be a mix of permanent and vacation renters. It's not the most private location and you'll be sharing the parking area and pool with others. This worked out well for us though, since there was a really nice family with similar aged kids staying on the property as well. I'd highly recommend the place, but only if you're feeling like socializing with others. More of a mini-resort feel than a private vacation rental home."

  • An idyllic retreat in the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley

"This rental is only a few yards off of the busy Route 246 (the main thoroughfare through the Santa Ynez Valley) but it feels like it's miles away from everything. A pretty, rustic lot with grapevines dotting a nice blend of open space and trees. The vibe is calm and relaxing. You will wake up to the sounds of rural life...nearby horses and chickens and other birds. This isn't a party house rental...this is a place for quiet. The rental portion is below a main house and perfect for a couple. There is a sink and a food prep area, but no way to cook food besides a microwave, so keep that in mind if you like to make your own meals. The awesome El Rancho Market is a very short walk away and they have lots of options, so you may find you don't want to cook at all! Everything was sparkling clean and there are plenty of places to sit and read, or watch TV, or just chill. The bed is comfortable and placed perfectly next to a window. We loved falling asleep with the cool breeze (it was very hot during our July stay). Rafael and Maria are warm, inviting hosts with the cutest little dog. The location is perfect if you want easy access to the main attractions of the valley. It's far enough out of the main part of Solvang to provide a respite from the endless throngs of tourists and gamblers. It's a very short drive from Los Olivos, with it's 50+ wine tasting rooms, and an even shorter drive to Santa Ynez, which has some of the best restaurants in the entire area. Looking for a quiet retreat, or just simply a nice home base that isn't a hotel filled with screaming children? This is the place."
