  • Excellent house.

"The house was as advertised and was very accommodating. Very well appointed and great for a couples get-away. Within walking distance to downtown Pacific Grove. The owners were super easy to work with and were very responsive to all requests and inquiries. Will stay again if/when my travels bring me back to Monterey."

  • Great location - perfect apartment with great views.

"Thanks Merry! We really enjoyed our week in Pacific Grove. The apartment was equipped with everything we needed and we could walk and take the free trolley into Monterey. We enjoyed the freedom this gave us rather than staying in a hotel. Like other reviews, the upside down nature of the house meant we spent most of our time in the bedroom enjoying the views whilst the kids watched TV. Not a hardship for a week. My only suggestion - bedside clock would be useful. We would definitely recommend this property if you want more flexibility than a hotel and a location where you can walk to lots of attractions."

  • Fabulous location and excellent value

"This place was as advertised: a cozy and functional cottage just off the main business district in Pacific Grove. The location is fantastic: steps to restaurants and shops, a couple blocks from the ocean and Lover's Point Beach, and a pleasant 10-minute stroll to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. If you're most concerned about value for the location, this place is an excellent choice. The cottage itself is one of the dozens of historic little cottages in town, all in various states of renovation (or lack thereof). This cottage has been partially redone, with an emphasis on the most critical elements for live-in comfort. The core of the house - a shared kitchen/living area, two small bedrooms, and a shared bath - have all been updated. The look overall is a bit spare, but that's also to be expected for a rental. The lighting is assuredly much improved over whatever it was before, but we found ourselves wishing there were two bedside reading lamps in each bedroom rather than just one each. Also, the lights in the parking lot across the street are quite bright, but there are only sheer curtains in the living area, so no way to shut it out. The toilets don't work well but can be coaxed to flush. The pull-stop for the shower is nearly hard-watered in place and needs some attention. There is a second bathroom (with sink) in the back but there is no light, so they don't advertise it, which seems fair. We found the beds to be a bit creaky but otherwise comfortable. The place was very clean. All in all, we'd stay here again. It was a bit tight for the four of us, but we were mostly out and about anyway, which was super easy to do given the location. We had no problems getting in or out and the host was very responsive when we had one question."

  • Great Location!

"My husband and I, plus some family members, recently spent 4 nights at the Gingerbread House in Pacific Grove, before and during our daughter's wedding weekend. The House was charming, clean, and in a great location for walking to downtown shops/restaurants, as well as to the path along the ocean. We have been going the Monterey area for years, and always prefer to stay in Pacific Grove vs. either Monterey or Carmel. The rooms were all spacious and comfortable, and the half bath was an added bonus. It was great to have another area for getting ready on the morning of the wedding. The drive into Monterey for the wedding was quick and easy. The only negative was that there wasn't a nice outdoor space for congregating for a meal. A "secluded patio" was mentioned, but it wasn't set up for a group and was not particularly inviting. Since we were out and about most of the time, it didn't matter, but if we had been there for a more leisurely stay, with more time spent cooking and eating in, we would have preferred a better outdoor area for a group."
