  • Cozy Apartment/Condo

"We had a great time, even though the stairs were a challenge for Gloria. Very close to everything in Monterey and Pacific Grove area. Very helpful and courteous staff. It was great to have them just downstairs. Stove and refrigerator seemed too big for the kitchen. but worked well. Would consider staying there again."

  • Holiday Weekend Retreat

"If you desire beautiful, quiet surroundings, you will enjoy your stay at this little gem. When I walked into the door, I felt welcomed. The furnishings are comfortable and well kept. The kitchen is well supplied with all the conveniences you will need if you choose to cook in, as we did. We made great use of the outdoor dining area and there are 2 decks if you want to sit outside and relax. There is a wonderful aquarium, shopping, and many restaurants are within walking distance. Multiple golf courses are available a few miles away, including the Pebble Beach course. We were able to stay in and be lazy or go out as we chose. One afternoon we were surprised by a visit from 3 deer, just across the street! I would definitely stay at this cottage again."

  • This house has it all

"My niece and I stayed 10 nights at Mar Luna, and it was wonderful. The location is perfect for morning walks along the shore and watching the surf, with or without harbor seals. The house itself is so comfy and convenient, we felt as if we were coming home each night. Pictures do not do it justice, the views from the windows are outstanding. The neighborhood is safe and friendly, and we shopped for perishables at Trader Joe's and Safeway on the way home from our many day trips. We did Big Sur 2 days, Carmel 2 days, the Aquarium of course, and the $10 fee to drive along 17 Mile Drive through the Pebble Beach Golf Course was well worth it. Pacific Grove itself is worth at least a day. The architecture is interesting, the restaurants are superb, and the downtown is pleasant and made for walking. Less trendy and touristy than Carmel. Check out Carmel Valley Roasting Company on Lighthouse Ave for their flavorful coffees. Don't miss meals at Passionfish, Fandango, La Mia Cucina, and Favaloro's Big Night Bistro. The only problem is trying to decide what to order, but whatever you choose it will be fresh and delicious. For really interesting and unique jewelry stop by Robin's Jewelry in Carmel, her items are so different, and she can customize them for you on the spot. Sunday afternoons The Cypress Inn in Carmel has live music, stop by the courtyard and hear Andrea Carter sing while you sip some wine or coffee. The whale watch trip was pretty foggy but we saw lots of whales, and I can't recommend the Elkhorn Slough Wildlife Safari in Moss Landing enough. If you want to see otters and many sea birds up close, this is your trip. The Monterey Peninsula has something for everyone, and Mar Luna is the perfect base from which to explore this beautiful area. It was not too large for just 2 people, but there would be room for a family with no problem. You can't go wrong."

  • good base of operations

"well, as other guests have said, this condo has a great location, and it's for this reason alone i chose it and gave it 4 stars. we came for 5 nights to explore the coast, and this place gave us an excellent base to go between sf and big sur, which we did. my track star daughter ran on the monterey recreation trail across the street every day, and we loved watching the sea otters play in the surf. we ate in for several dinners and it was a treat to dine looking at the ocean. the parking spot is convenient for a small car like ours. the aquarium is top notch, but cannery row isn't worth more than the hour or so it takes to walk it. the central coast really is beautiful, and this condo was worth it for us as we were out the door every morning exploring. for a "stay at home" vacation rental, i'd think twice. i think it's important to note that you can't judge this rental as you would a hotel. you get more space and privacy with a vrbo like this, but you also have to live with the flaws as there is not a front desk to call and have every issue resolved. for example... -not all stove burners work -several blinds chords are broken off -the balcony door needs to be re-hung, as my daughter was actually unable to open or close it and it took all my strength to do so. - several windows, including both bathrooms, have broken window cranks, rendering them inoperable -the place is cluttered, really cluttered. it is the owner's place, which she uses, and she may decorate it as she wishes. however, as a paying guest, you have to search for a place to put down your keys and wallet so as not to disturb the many little trinkets which populate every surface. -outside the master bedroom there is a security light which is very, very bright, and burns all night. this will not bother you if you are used to sleeping with an illuminated lamp 8 feet from your pillow every night."
