"Overall, we had a nice time at this house. We were two families (4 parents, 3 kids), and the house is laid out well for that constellation of people; each adult couple got their own master suite, and the kids were across the house in two adjacent rooms. Here's my breakdown.
Positives: Beautiful pool and hot tub, and very attractive landscaping. Plenty of space, including a huge "great room" that opens out to the pool area. (It was cold while we were there, but in warmer times the indoor/outdoor flow would be great.) Lots of bathrooms, lots of space to retreat to when you need that. Excellent location. Benjamin is very quick in responding to communications.
Negatives: This is really more of an empty showcase, staged for sale, than a rental space; lots of blank walls, generic furnishings (some of which still had tags on them!), some cheap elements (e.g., curtain pullbacks that were falling out of the plaster); no sense of people living there (e.g., no kids' games, no books on bookshelves); not enough rugs or furniture to absorb sound, so a lot of sound echo; no welcome/guide to the house. It would have been nice to know going into the rental that this was primarily set up for showing to potential buyers. A lot of things that should be working at this costly a rental were not: we were informed the day before we arrived that the dishwasher wasn't usable (and there was no dish rack for handwashing until the last night); there's no music system aside from an old portable one (bring your own); the ice maker and water dispenser in the fridge don't work (an extra errand for ice purchases); the wifi wasn't working when we arrived, and had to be replaced while we were there (spending time on the phone with Time Warner isn't really a vacation-y thing).
All that said, it was sort of glamorous, and the pool/spa made it all worthwhile. And this was our 10-year-old daughter's favorite house of the 5 we've rented over the years in Palm Springs."
