  • Absolutely fantastic!

"If you are looking for a true snowy wonderland experience, this is it! If you are already familiar with the whole Bear Valley cabins situation, you already understand the layout - but if like us you it is all new to you, make sure you read the directions. (Our other couple arrived first, in the rainy dark after a long drive, and were not the happiest as they wandered around in deep snow looking for sign posts in the rain.) So if you will be arriving at night please DO read the directions thoroughly, bring strong flashlights, and make sure you know where you are going, as it is a tiny bit tricky. But it is WELL worth the effort - once we found our beautiful cabin, we were beyond thrilled. As the instructions state, you park in the plowed parking lot and walk a fairly short distance on snow covered roads to the cabin. You can also arrange for snowmobile taxi service (for a very low fee) or collect sleds on the porch to fetch your belongings from your car. After that you are in the most pristine, idyllic world. It is quiet and beautiful. It is also an easy walk over to the lodge if you want a drink, a library book, to rent skis or a snowmobile, or really anything. But why would you? The house is gorgeous. The fireplace is gas, keeps everything toasty (and you never need to chop wood or breath in smoke). The bedrooms and baths are spotless and up to date. The kitchen and dining room are comfy and charming. This is not a cabin furnished with someone's mismatched outcast furniture, but a very lovingly cared-for home. One day we rented skis in the lodge, caught the shuttle bus (which leaves right there) up to Bear Valley, enjoyed the slopes all day, and then skied back down, returned our skis and strolled home. If you have your own skis you could catch the shuttle up and just ski straight to your door - it is a beautiful long run. There is also a gorgeous cross-country area just across the road. We also rented snow mobiles, just for fun - a first time adventure. Can't say enough about how beautiful it was. We give this cabin our highest rating. Just be aware you can't stroll in and out -- to us that was part of the fun, but if someone in your group isn't up to walking in snow, that may be an issue. Otherwise, it really makes this far and away a much more special place - one you really won't forget"

  • Wonderful child friendly high end cabin in the woods with swimming lake and pool nearby

"Lazy Bear Lodge is the find of a lifetime for a family with an under five child. It is also a dream for Children from 6 and beyond. Children have age appropriate toys and games to choose from. The baby has a portacrib and a highchair as well as there being a safety gate for the stairs to the loft. The lodge is open and airy for summer relaxation. The air conditioning was so great for a hot Sierra summer day. Silent and quick. All the appliances are high end like new and the bathrooms are tile, fresh and clean. The beds are very comfortable including the bunk beds. My daughter slept in with her daughter and claimed her bed was better than mine. There is a floor to loft window in the living area looking out on the woods which gives the whole house the feeling of being away from everything. We 5 stayed at Lazy Bear for a week and never heard any neighbors. Just the Jay's and the wind in the pines. We cooked and played and never turned on the TV. Only the great wifi reception tempted the hooked in the family. The hosts were impressive in their attention to detail, keeping us informed and suggesting activities. But between the deck, the swimming lakes, the crafts at the pool, the paper air planes off the back and the sleepy mountain air we were plenty occupied. However at their strong suggestion we did drive up to Calavaras Big Trees. Amazing. The 5 yr old was as impressed and enchanted as the adults. We went twice! To sum up. Reserve, put your money down, pack up just your personal items and go! There is a washer/dryer and a good grocery near by so don't bring the kitchen sink. All you need for a wonderful week in the Mts is your desire for safe family fun in the forest and a stay at Lazy Bear Lodge!"

  • Wonderful!

"We had a great time staying at Scott's lakeside cabin. The location was perfect -right next to the lake and close to town. His instructions were very clear, so we had no problem at all getting situated even though we arrived after the sun had set. His cabin is very inviting and organized. We felt right at home! Thank you for sharing your little piece of Arnold with us!"
