  • Property was clean but some improvements needed

"We found the interior to be clean and the floor-plan was decent but it was obvious right away that the owners didn't want to put a lot of money into this home since it was a rental. First of all, the garage door had no remote to open/lower and had to be done manually. Not a big deal except for the fact that the roll up door had no handle. Was it too big of a deal to install a handle or a remote drive motor? Secondly, the roof drips onto the walkway to the right of the garage. Entering and leaving the place means you are going to get wet especially at the corner where the garage meets the house. On a warm day, it is a virtual river dripping onto the only access to the front door. Put in a gutter and solve this problem... The kitchen was meagerly stocked with cooking utensils. We wanted to make spaghetti and were surprised to find there were no pots large enough to boil the noodles so we had to go to Kmart and buy a stock pot. It was about $20 and so we left it at the site. Consider it a donation to the frugal owners. Also, we couldn't find any sauce pan big enough to fit the sauce and meatballs, so we had to go back to the store and get one of those. We took our sauce pot back with us because it was a bit more expensive. They did have a WOK, but with a rounded bottom, we couldn't figure out how to get it to sit on the burner without rolling off. A WOK with a round bottom? Totally useless. The frying pans were non-stick but the coating has long been scorched off which means everything sticks. The cookware needs to be thrown away and replaced with something usable. We "vacationers" should not be expected to bring our own utensils when we travel out of town Come-on people... It's $100 for a decent set of pots and pans. Silverware was sparse. No bread knife to cut the french bread. And the only can opener was the triangle shaped one with the bottle opener on the other end. What does it take to stock the kitchen with things you will need? No can opener? Really? It took me 10 minutes to open two cans by punching a whole bunch of triangles into the edge of the cans. That's just silly. The fireplace has no gas feed, so it's firestarter and matches. No big deal once it gets started, but if you buy firewood, better bring newspapers too. A washer and dryer in the garage came in handy to dry your coats which are soaked from the roof melt walking back and forth to load and unload your car. Other than that, the place was warm and cozy."

  • Fun

"We are two families with a couple friends that had a wonderful time up at Bear staying in this rental home. The home has plenty of beds and room for large groups and I would recommend it and stay there again. The down side was the game room has not been kept up. Both the pool table and ping pong table slanted and were worn with really bad paddles and sticks the chairs were broken and you could just tell it has been really used as a party place where renters have thrashed it. We still used it and laughed how the ball would roll down etc but I think people should be warned until they have been replaced and chairs should be fixed. There were plenty of plates but found the wine key was broken and no containers to store left overs etc. so I'm hoping the owners will read this and do a walk through and put some money into fixing these things because they have a Great house here."

  • Great, cozy cabin. Loved the feel of being away from it all but with the privacy of our own home.

"Only complaint would be the lack of cleanliness of the sheets and blankets. In addition, we had to wash dishes upon first arrival as the dishes and glasses were put away dirty. Trash was also left in the cabin by the previous tenants"
