  • Perfect for our first trip to Big Bear

"The Rockspray Chalet was a perfect home for our first trip to Big Bear. We had two families both with 2 elementary school kids (8 people total) and the house was perfect for us. The kitchen/living room/dining area is open and airy with a beautiful view of trees--you can see the mountain and the lake from the patio. There is a great fireplace with plenty of fire wood too. The kitchen is very well stocked with appliances/kitchen utensils--we prepared almost all of our meals there. All of the kids slept downstairs together in the bedroom (it has 1 queen and 1 twin bunk bed and is big enough for 4 kids). The downstairs also has a separate game room and a nice bathroom/washing machine/drier area. The game room was a major hit. There is a pool/air hockey table, TV, Wii with controllers/games, electronic piano and comfy couch that the kids LOVED! The parents slept upstairs--the master is nice with an attached bathroom. The other room has twin beds that you can push together and another separate bathroom. The upstairs/downstairs was good with kids as kids could play without bugging parents and parents could stay up later than kids without keeping them awake. The location near Bear Mountain is so convenient-our kids were a bit young to walk there so we drove, but adults could walk. There was just enough snow in the back yard for some snow play too. We would stay there again."

  • Gorgeous big house! Inspiring views! Awesome owner!

"First of all, we loved working with Nancy, if you're reading this expecting a sterile or mechanical interaction with an owner, stop, take a deep breath, and let that go. Nancy was sincere, honest, down to earth and thoughtful, she was super busy with her life and it was bad timing because she had some things being taken care of at the house, but she made our weekend happen anyway, she's under-selling this place, and we were surprised at just how picturesque the home is. The common area was very spacious for our large group to gather, share meals, play games, etc. and despite the size we still enjoyed that cozy, modern, rustic cabin vibe that is so appealing about this type of rental. The kitchen had everything we needed, was big enough, and laid out well enough for 4-5 people prepping and cooking. The game room was beautiful and separated enough from the rest of the house that the adults could laugh and joke loudly while the little ones were asleep at night. One of the best parts of this house was the layout, the rooms are all separated by hallways and other areas of the house, each with it's own bathroom, it gave each of our families as much privacy and peaceful retreat as you could want while staying together in a cabin. All together with the wrap around deck, including the octagon shaped room, hot tub area, bbq area, and porch area, that's 4 outdoor gathering locations, then the dining room, living area, and game room that's 3 more spaces, we had 7 seperate choices available to spend time together as a family, and they were all so enjoyable that we made use of them during our stay. The front deck had a largely unobstructed mountain view because of the golf course, and I'm sure as gorgeous as it was in Summer, it must be even more amazing in Winter. I can't say enough good things about this place and the owner, we will definitely want to come back. Just a note to those concerned about the negative remarks. The owner talked to us about some concerns ahead of time, and was in the process of taking care of some of the issues with a new management company, despite the warning and the disclosures from Nancy we booked and I'm so glad we did, because there wasn't anything that would equate to a real issue with the house, and the few things that were minor were being taken care of. If you aren't aware already, cabins are impossible to keep dust and cobweb free for more than a couple days, and this place was the cleanest we've been in."

  • Great location - Everything you need!

"Pros: Amazing location. I can only imagine renting here during the winter months with it being located at Snow Summit. (Probably 100 yards from the lifts) And if you visit during the offseason (Our Visit) the condo sits right next to a main trail. If your a mountain biker, well just wake up and your there! Snow Sumitt opens all their trails to mountain bikers and hikers during off season. Condo had all we needed 2 bedrooms, 2 full bath, and laundry all located downstairs, with full kitchen (fully stocked with cookware, appliances, silverware, coffee maker ect.), dinning room, family room (two couches, one chair, tv and fireplace) and balconies attached to both the family room and the downstairs master bedroom). Wifi was provided as well as cable tv in every bedroom and family room). It was all perfect for what we needed traveling with a 2 and 4 year old, and two dogs (pet friendly with an addition charge per pet). Cons: I would say it may be time for some upgrades. Lighting was pretty bad in the masterbedroom which is an easy update and the tv is a older large tube tv on a large wall mount. The wall mount is ready for replacement, oddly located right as you walk into the bedroom at shoulder level with me (I'm 6'1") between bed and vanity and very wobbly. I'm sure I'm not the first to have a close call with walking my face into it. We ended up taking it down since it wasn't working anyway (cablebox was not working which we were warned about at rental office at checkin) Overall: Great Visit, Great rental, 5 stars everything we needed and everything we were promised. "TV wasn't a big deal to our family, far too much for us to do outside!" All cons were cosmetic and would easy be fixed."

  • Perfect location! Gorgeous and cozy house!

"This house was so big and perfect for our stay! Everything worked, it was warm, the jacuzzi was wonderful and the beds were clean and comfy! The kitchen had everything you needed (minus the food obviously) to make dinner in for your family including a bbq! Everything was clean and I love how everything was so open! You never missed out on family time while in the kitchen! The only thing I wasn't happy with was how short our trip was! I do wish there was more snow around the house too but we did visit at the beginning of March. It is walking distance from the slopes yet far enough away that there was no noise or chaos at all! Amanda was super accommodating and always available and quick to responded with any questions or concerns!"
