  • Relaxing winter break for the whole family

"Our family (3 generations) just returned from a 4-day New Year weekend at “the Lakeside Haven”. What a lovely house! We all found it very inviting and comfortable. Our host Catherine has been the most helpful by providing prompt responses to our (numerous ) inquiries prior to the trip and by returning the security deposit in full on the day we checked out of the house. We cooked all our meals at the house (very well equipped kitchen, plenty of dishes for all & nice spacious dining table), celebrated New Year, enjoyed a fantastic afternoon cross-country skiing at the Royal Gorge (literally 5 min drive away) and a day of skiing/snowboarding at the Sugar Bowl (~15 min away). My parents went on a very long beautiful walk all around both lakes. If you have your own cross-country skis (we didn’t this time), you can start your trail right out from the backyard and ski around the lakes. We only wished we had more days to enjoy it all and hope to come back again soon. Thank you Catherine!"

  • Relaxing, perfect location for hiking

"Great cabin, everything we needed was there. We hiked the Tahoe Rim Trail, less than 1 mile from the cabin. Cabin was clean and ready for us, no problems with wifi. Hot tub was glorious. No noise no neighbors on either side. Loved walking around and looking at other houses and cabins, dreaming of the future. Nice place to visit, even better if we could afford to buy a place to get away. But this cabin is perfect for us. Both the owner and property manager are easy to contact and responsive when needed. Will be back soon."

  • Excellent home that's poorly managed

"The Lookout Lodge is an amazing home. Almost every aspect of it is top-notch. My only complaint is the way it's managed. Unfortunately, the owners don't have a local contact person in case of trouble. We had trouble with the AC and ended up having to contact and meet the repairman ourselves. The AC repairman found that the filters were completely clogged and that one of the main units was electrically disconnected. We ended up spending part of our vacation dealing with repair folks...not what I had in mind. In general, the house was clean except for the wood floors. It was pretty clear those floors had not been cleaned thoroughly before our stay. A minor annoyance was that the icemaker didn't work. All these things point to poor management. A huge new home is being built next door. The noise and worker parking was a minor inconvenience. I would recommend this home, but be sure to ask the owner about how the home's been maintained prior to your stay."

  • Would like to return

"Our family had a wonderful reunion at this "homey" "cabin". It was the perfect place to bring young children. My husband hiked twice a day. Our daughter said it was the best run she's had on the trail nearby. The beds were so comfortable. The kitchen was the most well appointed one that I've ever seen in a rental. I can envision renting this home during any season. It's perfect."
