  • Great Place! Great Time!

"Four of us stayed to celebrate my oldest son's graduation from UCLA. My two son's 22 and 21, myself and my husband's sister (unfortunately my husband could only stay for the graduation). That gives me a perfect excuse to come back with my husband! Location, location, location! There is not a house with a better location. You can easily walk every where. We rented golf carts one afternoon just to see more of the island. It was really fun. Now to the house. It is exactly as promoted. It's old and well loved. It was like staying at a friend's beach house. Not a rental property. The bedrooms were all comfortable and the bathrooms seemed somewhat updated. We were caught a little off guard that the door into the house leads into a bedroom but had no problem with that. We did not take advantage of the kitchen (too many good restaurants to try) but it had everything you need. Spent a lot of time on the deck, people watching and playing games. The deck was my favorite part of the house. There were people staying in the apartment above and did not even notice they were there. No problem with privacy if that is a concern. Huntington Beach has been my favorite beach to visit in Southern California not anymore. Wish we would have visited Avalon and the Grisham House sooner. This was our middle stop on our southern California vacation and everyone's favorite. It was a perfect way to spend great time with my son before he moves to India for the next step in his life. Thank you Randy! We'll be back"

  • Amazing Place and Location!!

"I can't say enough good things about this property and its owners. It was the perfect place for our family meet up to visit my sister and brother-in-law and their new baby (who also stayed in the house). The owners (and the property manager) were amazingly hospitable and welcoming. The house was roomy, warm and had a perfect, relaxing family feel. My kids (2 under 5) loved the bunk beds and Curious George books. My two year old even slept in a bed for the first time the whole week with no problems (which I attribute to the good karma of the house). The location is perfect, perfect, perfect. As an East Coaster, I like walkability which is hard to come by in LA but this house was a block away from Main Street which has coffee shops, ice cream places, restaurants, nail salons, shops and a lot of other cool stuff. It's also walkable to some cool places in Venice and a very short drive to Abbot Kinney, the 3rd Street promenade, etc. It was also very close to the beach and walkable to the Venice Boardwalk (where we rented bikes) and the Santa Monica Pier (about a mile or so North). There was even a playground on the beach about 5 minutes away from the house. I've used VRBO many times and this was one of my best experiences. I don't think you can ask for a better location for a vacation in LA. And you can't ask for a nicer, more responsive owner. If you want to stay in a place that makes you wish you lived in Santa Monica, this is the place. I would highly recommend!"

  • Nice place to stay

"We enjoyed our stay at the Grisham condo in the "low-lander" section of Avalon. If you can do stairs, this is the place to stay. On the ground level is the living room and a bath with shower. Up a flight of stairs is the 2nd bedroom with a bath without a shower and the kitchen. Up a flight of stairs is the lovely master bedroom and bath suite. It has double sinks and a roomy shower (jacuzzi tub cannot be used during the drought). The home has been recently renovated and has hard wood floors, tile and nice new furniture. We ate 2 breakfasts and 1 dinner here. The owner supplies paper goods, since the dishwasher is also not allowed to be used during the drought. The toilet in the master bath cycles on and off constantly, but if you close the door, it's not too annoying. It is only a short walk from "town." It is on a busy corner with lots of golf carts putt-putting by. We saw deer from our windows, as they come down for water. The house does not have AC, but has lots of fans. We opened the doors & windows for fresh cool air, which was lovely!"
