  • Excellent Location...But Not Quiet

"This 2 bedroom condo has pluses and minuses: Pros: Very comfortable and cozy Nice bay view Very secure building No one above Modern kitchen Gas fireplace which works as a heater Great restaurant below...mostly Japanese cuisine Very well located in Eureka's Old Town District with great restaurants and shops Comfortable beds Management company is responsive Reserved parking space Fairly large flat screen TV with cable We are very grateful we were allowed to keep our "grand-dog" with us. Cons: Very slow Internet For us, it was noisy at various times during the day and trucks during the day to the ice cream shop and restaurant below. They take delivery right below the condo and trucks park under the windows and leave their engines running. At night the ice cream shop and restaurant move their tables across the floor to clean and back again. Almost constant from 8:00 - 9:30 or 10:00 PM. Ice cream shop workers keep their radio on at night at a volume we could hear in both bedrooms and living room. That being said....we rented for a month during Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. We were not gone site-seeing during the day as many guests normally would be. And, the sound may not be bothersome to many. We stayed in another unit in the complex, unit R-5 (I think) and had none of the above mentioned noises....but it is a 1 bedroom unit. I wish I could give Bayfront One unit R-1 a 5 star....but I just can't."

  • Oceanfront in March

"I would actually give 4 1/2 stars. Together with another couple, we visited this home for 6 days in March. Our stay included warm sunny days and a scary hurricane-like storm. This home is an amazing place to be, in either situation. The views are stunning. The waves pounded nonstop. Lighthouse beacon swirled through our bedroom at night. It was a very special place to be. Downside: we did have to battle ants in the kitchen and went out to buy some ant spray, as there was none in the house. The other kitchen issue was the complete disarray of items in the drawers and some of the cupboards, which resulted in lots of hunting around for needed utensils or containers. I would think the maids or cleaning crew could make some sense of the kitchen chaos. We have stayed in other places where everything had a labeled place, and were much more organized in the kitchen. We enjoyed the pool table during the storm, and thankfully the power didn't go out. Fireplace kept us warm and cozy. I was able to fly my kite on the bluff on the sunny days, a nice breeze was just right. Our friends said the downstairs bed was good for them. We found the upstairs bed to be quite hard; it could have used a foam topper! This home is in a lovely neighborhood and close to both Mendocino Village and Fort Bragg. Owner was very easy to work with and we extended our stay for an extra day without any trouble."

  • Exhale......lovely cottage tucked in the woods

"My husband and I turned a trip to the west coast for a son's wedding into a min-vacation for us as well. Windows open for the cool night air and to listen to the pond's waterfall (right in front of the cottage porch). Complimentary bottle of wine provided by Mark (owner)! Dinner at Larrupin, about 10 min down the road, day trips out to walk among the redwoods and to get elk sightings....what's not to love. Mark has clearly put a lot of love and time into creating this oasis and I'm so glad I found it on VRBO. If we'd had kids in college nearby, this would have absolutely been our destination for graduation weekend. If I knew someone getting married nearby, this would be a sweet place for that kind of venue as well. Thanks Mark for a wonderful 2 night stay! We will be back if we're ever back in this part of the country!"

  • Just what the dr ordered

"This place was just what we needed-peaceful, serene and away from it all. It is just a few minutes to town, but you wouldn't know it from the stillness of the forest. I loved waking up in the morning with a beautiful view from the window. Everything we needed was there. We would have loved to stay longer. We hope to return. Thank you!!"
