  • Relaxing and Peaceful family getaway

"Our family of 5 and our dog, wanted to have a short vacation away from the busy bay area. We always travel with Grandparents, cousins, friends and realized we haven’t had a family vacation with just US for years! This property was better than I expected from their website. The quite neighborhood it is situated in was beautiful. We woke every morning (4 day stay) to walk our pup among tons of deer grazing in the yard and across the street, you could hear and see the beautiful Pacific, and the vibe was just so relaxing. The house is furnished very tastefully, and the kitchen was well stocked. The soft linens on the bed were extremely comfortable and we all slept so well. We spent lazy days hanging on the porch bbqing, in the hot tub, kids relaxing in the nice open, large living room by the fire playing games. At night we watched movies from their huge stash of DVD’s. We brought our telescope that was given to my oldest son as a gift and have not been able to use it yet. It was amazing for star gazing. Even without the telescope the kids have never seen so many stars. Irish Beach is spectacular with tons of drift wood that the kids built a little house out of, and we saw maybe two other people the whole day we spent there. Short drive to Fort Bragg to take kids on a quick train trip. We shopped at the local grocery store in town for most of our meals. It was nice they had a washer and dryer in the house. My 12, 7 and 5 year old had the best time and did not want to leave. It is amazing how just getting out of your home and element can be really great for the family. The kids all got along so well this weekend, and there was no video games, iPhones to play with, cartoons, toys littering the floor. It was just us. It was magical! One evening we were all on the back deck and a ton of donkeys came running down the hill to us! It was hilarious and awesome for the kids. They let us pet them, and we feed them some celery (hope that was okay). We felt at home and comfortable. It was JUST what our little family needed to recharge the batteries of our busy day to day life. I don’t think we looked at the time once! Ahhhh… I can’t wait to go back next year. Thank you Alex and Cathy for taking such good care of this property. The love you have for it shows and we can’t WAIT to return next year and make this an annual trip for our family. Just a wonderful time!!!!"

  • Romantic Memories

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Twenty two years ago we celebrated out 25th anniversary in Mendocino at an unnamed resort. After returning for several years we began exploring many of the wonderful B&B's up and down the coast. Six years ago we discovered Mendocino Preferred and have stayed in several of their properties. We no longer bother looking anywhere else when coming to stay in Mendocino. Never a disappointment. The "team" is a pleasure to deal with. We look forward to many more "Romantic Memories" in Mendocino."

  • Perfect Getaway for Two Exhausted Parents!!

"Two years and 25 days since our last vacation away from the kiddos....756 days to be exact. So as you might imagine, we would have pitched a tent, in a storm, on a beach to get some alone time and to have an uninterrupted conversation....but alas, no such tent was pitched and we lucked out to arrive at the charming Shalimere instead to celebrate 14 years (7 married), my 37th birthday and a wee bit of silence! :) To start off, once I sent my little "I'm dreaming of a silent vacation inquiry" - Lorie was very easy to communicate with and work with. Quick to respond to questions and made the financial transaction equally as easy. But really, it's all about the house. The perfect amount of charm, the perfect amount of beach house funk. Ready for us to enjoy our lounging weekend. Clean, loaded with all that you could need, allowed our sweet pup to join us (as she herself loves a good break from the chaotic children in her life), a hot tub with a view....and Oh that VIEW! First off, the kitchen/dining/living room combo is so perfect with an amazing ceiling- gosh I really did love that! I could cook in the kitchen and catch the 180' degree views of the sunset or sit on the deck with my love sipping champagne to watch the sky change colors. Great, great view. The bed we slept in was very comfortable as well. Linens, towels, robes, etc....pretty much everything was provided and made it so easy! Besides sitting in the hot tub and watching the sun come up and go down, my next favorite thing was visiting the private Irish Beach! We were the only two (besides aforementioned dog) on the beach. It was a long stretch of sand and great rock formations and my favorite part was the Driftwood Graveyard....we had a great time exploring all of the driftwood that has landed on this beach! Took some great photographs and threw the ball for the dog for hours. Perfect way to start off a Saturday! I loved our weekend and we truly took advantage of the quiet, the views, and the amenities! Thanks Lorie for a great weekend! We will be back, next time maybe even with the kiddos- I think the house set up is perfect for another couple or even a family! And we know our kiddos would have enjoyed the view and exploring the beach too! Each room having their own bathroom attached is a bonus and would make this a great couples retreat....but then again, maybe we will just come back solo and keep it to ourselves!"

  • The home is well kept and comfortable.

"The home is well designed a fit for small groups. Neighborhood is tranquil and wildlife visits were frequent. Proximity to beach and small quaint coastal towns makes it a nice home-base. Local weather is typical for the north coast, though Irish Beach seemed to get a bot more sun than surrounding region."
