  • The BEST place (sshh - LOL) to stay in Mendo!

"Well, I lived in Manchester back in the early 70's as a kid and have been coming to Mendo, and specifically Irish Beach for years. I had the pleasure of introducing my Florida gal pal (Ladies Long Weekend) to my favorite place - the Mendo Coast. Jennifer, our host, was AMAZING as we had to coordinate dates, flights, etc. What a fantastic host - always right there with our questions, etc. We arrived, and it was winter, but as I shared with my friend, new to Nor Cal Coast: Winter storms or Sunshine - ya can't beat a cottage with a fireplace on the bluff in Irish Beach. The view, proximity to the beach, the very comfortable beds (2 of the 3 bedrooms have glorious ocean views), the living room (glass and views!) and wrap around deck - again - best views! The mighty Pacific there to lull you and entertain you (waves crashing against the rocks off the private beach? The BEST!). Hours spent just watching that ocean, and chatting away, which was what we wanted: Relaxation and amazing connection to the Pacific Ocean. The deck in GREAT as, no matter the weather, you can always find a place that is a sanctuary if stormy (for winter visitors) - and nothing wrong with a storm - very exciting. Coming in winter means lush, green landscapes, sweater/fleece weather, but nothing to hold you back. We also had beautiful sunset, clear view of Pt. Arena Lighthouse - (very special), clear night with the best stars, and an almost full moon rise. So close to everything I wanted to show my friend; from Pt. Arena up to quaint Mendocino town...we really wished we had booked more days. Went horseback riding via Ross Family Ranch, and that took us right to our beach:) The house is very livable, comfy and welcoming and well appointed (great kitchen - we cooked!). Yes, you have to bring a few things (your own towels, sheets) and do a little cleaning - but to keep the price economical, so worth it! What can I say - We'll be back, and I've been busy sharing with my friends this treasure as if you want to be in Mendo, ya gotta be on the on the Beach:) Thanks for all you helpfulness, Jennifer, in making my return trip so great, and introducing Judy to how AMAZING the Mendo Coast is - VERY special! And thank you, Grandma - we could feel your love and the years of happiness in this sweet home. Best, Lesa"

  • Relaxing and Peaceful family getaway

"Our family of 5 and our dog, wanted to have a short vacation away from the busy bay area. We always travel with Grandparents, cousins, friends and realized we haven’t had a family vacation with just US for years! This property was better than I expected from their website. The quite neighborhood it is situated in was beautiful. We woke every morning (4 day stay) to walk our pup among tons of deer grazing in the yard and across the street, you could hear and see the beautiful Pacific, and the vibe was just so relaxing. The house is furnished very tastefully, and the kitchen was well stocked. The soft linens on the bed were extremely comfortable and we all slept so well. We spent lazy days hanging on the porch bbqing, in the hot tub, kids relaxing in the nice open, large living room by the fire playing games. At night we watched movies from their huge stash of DVD’s. We brought our telescope that was given to my oldest son as a gift and have not been able to use it yet. It was amazing for star gazing. Even without the telescope the kids have never seen so many stars. Irish Beach is spectacular with tons of drift wood that the kids built a little house out of, and we saw maybe two other people the whole day we spent there. Short drive to Fort Bragg to take kids on a quick train trip. We shopped at the local grocery store in town for most of our meals. It was nice they had a washer and dryer in the house. My 12, 7 and 5 year old had the best time and did not want to leave. It is amazing how just getting out of your home and element can be really great for the family. The kids all got along so well this weekend, and there was no video games, iPhones to play with, cartoons, toys littering the floor. It was just us. It was magical! One evening we were all on the back deck and a ton of donkeys came running down the hill to us! It was hilarious and awesome for the kids. They let us pet them, and we feed them some celery (hope that was okay). We felt at home and comfortable. It was JUST what our little family needed to recharge the batteries of our busy day to day life. I don’t think we looked at the time once! Ahhhh… I can’t wait to go back next year. Thank you Alex and Cathy for taking such good care of this property. The love you have for it shows and we can’t WAIT to return next year and make this an annual trip for our family. Just a wonderful time!!!!"
