  • Idyllic!

"We came here for a summer vacation with the family (kids ages 6 and 2) and grandparents, and were immediately planning our return visit. The setting is idyllic , with a beautiful lake adjacent to the two cabins we rented. Our daily routine involved swimming, kayaking, walking around the property and painting the beautiful landscape. Brenda and Greg were gracious hosts, and the kids loved their lively dog Choco, too. The cabin was well equipped and had games for the kids. We look forward to returning."

  • We really enjoyed ourselves. It's extremely relaxing.

"Pros- location is so cool. You'd never stay at a hotel and experience this. The neighbor was so nice. He told us stories of hunting bears and fishing. We never met the owner. There is a dock next to the place that is almost privately for your use. There was literally fish jumping all over at all times of day. Feels safe and adventurous. Also near Safeway and other stores. Loved visiting the casino about 20 min away. Random but I loved all the pre recorded bass fishing competitions on the DVR. Stars at night were amazing. The location makes this place super amazing. Cabin layout is cute. You can hear the beach water like its the ocean. Cons-I had to remind Josey to send my deposit back. I'm still waiting for it. The no swimming sign on the shed was confusing. The owners small dogs bark a lot at all times of day and night. Quiet sometimes for hours and then if someone walks down the road or near by they start again. Beds weren't comfortable. Swamp cooler stopped working mid way through our trip. Bugs are so bad every night for a half an hour before it goes dark we just went in until they'd leave again (Can't have fishing and not bugs). Definitely bring bug spray. We'll definitely go back one day if I get my deposit back. Unlike anywhere I have ever stayed."

  • Family fun and dog friendly

"This was our third visit to Quail Ranch. While not fancy, we love spending time here with our dogs. It's easy access to the lake and the ocean. The yard is completely fenced for the dogs. The view of the lake and the ocean is wonderful. We will return."

  • Thanksgiving renunion fun

"We enjoyed a small family reunion/Thanksgiving get together at the Wild Smith River Home because it's halfway between where we live near Portland, OR, and where the rest of the family is in Ukiah, CA. Though there is always a risk in booking a place sight-unseen, we couldn't have found a better place to stay. The home is in beautiful condition and is very cozy. It took no time at all to settle in and get very warm and comfortable. AND I can't say enough for the surroundings! It was a very wet weekend but there was so much to see that we all spent a considerable amount of time outdoors anyway. The Smith River was extremely full and beautiful and everywhere we went there was flowing water, evergreen trees and fresh air. I would highly recommend this place as a peaceful getaway with lots to offer. I personally spent several hours sitting on the back deck just watching the river flow. We also have two dogs and they loved the place! The yard was large enough for them to run without getting onto the road and the neighborhood was filled with dogs for Jimmy to play with. One by one they all seemed to come and visit him! The house was fully stocked with everything necessary to just show up and have a great time (towels, blankets, soap, cooking utensils, etc.). There are lots of beautiful new windows and doors that provide plenty of light while allowing a feeling of forested living. The kitchen alone is interesting enough to justify the price of the rental - it has to be seen to be believed. Finally, the support and guidance we received from the owner made for a very safe and reassuring stay. Everything was clearly explained throughout the reservation and arrival process and there were no unwelcome surprises of any kind. We even had a credit card mixup and J Dean spent an enormous amount of time and effort helping me straighten everything out. We only corresponded over email and I never had to wait more than a few hours for a reply. I would highly recommend to anyone: there is no reason for hesitation - book now and enjoy the Wild Smith River Home."
