  • A quiet haven on the North Coast

"This home is very private. It is far enough from hwy 1 that you are not aware of the highway. All you hear is wind in the trees and the crash of the surf beyond the dunes. The views from the back deck are woods and fields. One of the best features is the fact you can walk out the door, go out to the dunes or the beach without crossing a road or seeing another person. The meadow directly behind the house is quite lovely and LARGE. Our German Shepherd who is a Chuckit fanatic got to run till he could run no more (which takes a bit). Yes the place is dog friendly. I'm sure kids would love it too. While the place feels like you're your deep in the country, in reality downtown Fort Bragg is maybe about ten minutes away. Access to shops, restaurants and activities is actually pretty convenient. The house is nicely appointed and very comfortable. When we were last here it rained a lot so we spent more time than usual indoors reading and we felt in no way deprived. The kitchen is a good size and well equipped. My wife enjoys cooking and found the selection of equipment to be good and basic spices and some staples are provided. You won't have to purchase every little thing if you wish to cook for yourself. Everything has been clean and well maintained when we've been here. In a nut shell, we like coming to Mendocino. This is the place we will book whenever we can. Actually one minor thing. the driveway is gravel with a kind of high center in a few places. We alway drive a Jeep or our Subaru station wagon and it's no problem and I imagine most vehicles wouldn't have an issue. However, if you drive a seriously slammed Porsche or BMW you might want to not bring it. Certainly inquire when you book."

  • Crows Nest Review

"Stayed at the Crows Nest for New Years weekend. We loved this house, spectacular view of the Bay in Trinidad . The views of the Ocean will mesmerize you. There's nothing quite like waking up to the sounds of the ocean. The Crow's Nest is amazingly very well stocked with everything you need. They have thought of everything. We enjoyed having the wood stove on a cold December Morning. We were able to buy fresh sea food from a local merchant. It was very convenient to shop at Murphy's Market to pick up a few things. We were pleasantly surprised at how well the Crows Nest is supplied. I can highly recommend staying here, there is so much to explore on the north coast. Looking forward to returning in the future."

  • Amazing views

"A great place to stay w amazing views and a wonderful deck. The hot tub allows clear view of the seas and the stars. Beds are comfortable, living room and kitchen are great with Windows throughout so the ocean is always in view. Five minutes from Gualala and five minutes from Anchor Bay. No real nightlife in either town but friendly people and good restaurants. The Russian restaurant and the Thai restaurant were real great surprises. Highly recommend this house to just relax and enjoy the views and the weather"

  • Truly 5 Stars!

"Hi Richard, Returned yesterday evening from some very special days in Humboldt County! We enjoyed our time at the Whale’s Tale very much – it was so comfortable and completely relaxing. We found the view out the back ever changing and mesmerizing! In addition to beautiful cloud formations, roaring sea, and tidal changes in the river, we enjoyed watching an osprey perch on the big dead tree that rises from the river bottom. We were also amazed and surprised as we watched a school of salmon come up the river – some of them coming almost completely out of the water. And while not completely certain that we saw otters – we definitely did watch two furry mammals swimming in the river. They were a ways off so maybe they were just muskrats --but a quick look up on Google said that otters do inhabit the lower reaches of the Mad River -- so maybe. When we arrived Tuesday afternoon the forecast told us we had only Wednesday to enjoy outdoor activities but, instead, the storm held off until Saturday morning! We hiked in the redwood forest in Prairie Creek State Park, searched for agates at Agate Beach, took a long walk at extreme low tide at Clam Beach, took some special photos at Luffenholtz Beach, and walked a stretch of the Hammond Trail. We visited some shops in Arcata and Trinidad and one of our favorites experiences was walking along misty trails in the Arcata Community Forest. We tried to take in as much as possible over just a few days and it was really great coming ‘home’ at the end of an adventurous day and enjoying the peacefulness and serenity of your lovely home. We want to come back!!"
