  • As advertised , Great simple cottage near the Redwood Parks

"Forest Haven was exactly what my Girlfriend and I were looking for while on a romantic getaway up to the Redwood Parks of Northern California. The cottage was clean and private and centrally located to the hiking trails we most wanted to check out (i.e. Patricks Point, Prairie Creek, etc.). The hot tub was little bit of a older model but in perfect working order, a great way to end the day. The kitchen area was great: the stove top and oven worked well , there were plenty of pots and pans for cooking. The market down the road is a full service "supermarket" and we found everything we needed for delicious meals at home there. The Propane grill in the yard was brand new. The wood burning stove keep the place toasty warm and the bed was extremely comfortable. You CAN hear the rooster in the morning but he is far enough away that we didn't find it problematic for sleeping in, and thought it added to the "country charm", as well getting a visit from the roaming pack of chickens while we drank coffee in the front yard every morning. The cottage immediately felt like home. I would highly recommend Forest Haven to friends looking for a affordable private country getaway. Its not the Ritz Carlton but its cozy and close to beach and Parks and all a couple or small family should need for a few days checking out this amazing park of the country."

  • Oceanfront in March

"I would actually give 4 1/2 stars. Together with another couple, we visited this home for 6 days in March. Our stay included warm sunny days and a scary hurricane-like storm. This home is an amazing place to be, in either situation. The views are stunning. The waves pounded nonstop. Lighthouse beacon swirled through our bedroom at night. It was a very special place to be. Downside: we did have to battle ants in the kitchen and went out to buy some ant spray, as there was none in the house. The other kitchen issue was the complete disarray of items in the drawers and some of the cupboards, which resulted in lots of hunting around for needed utensils or containers. I would think the maids or cleaning crew could make some sense of the kitchen chaos. We have stayed in other places where everything had a labeled place, and were much more organized in the kitchen. We enjoyed the pool table during the storm, and thankfully the power didn't go out. Fireplace kept us warm and cozy. I was able to fly my kite on the bluff on the sunny days, a nice breeze was just right. Our friends said the downstairs bed was good for them. We found the upstairs bed to be quite hard; it could have used a foam topper! This home is in a lovely neighborhood and close to both Mendocino Village and Fort Bragg. Owner was very easy to work with and we extended our stay for an extra day without any trouble."
