  • Fantastic well maintained property in a beautiful location

"We had such a wonderful stay here. Loved the location, the enchanting river, clean cottage and wonderful hot tub. The caretaker, Eileen, was fantastic. We would definitely recommend parking across the bridge and walking in, even if you have a 4 wheel drive. It is a lovely walk, easy and saves driving time. Our only complaint with our stay was the comfort of the bed. The mattress is a sleep number mattress that we could not seem to get to work and it was topped by soft foam which was hard on our backs."

  • The Bluff

"Stayed here with a large group of friends for five nights. The house is 180 degrees surrounded by ocean, where you can see waves of water crashing against the bluff from the living room and kitchen, at all times during the day. There is a beach roughly 15-20 min walk from the house, which is also visible from the backyard. Essentially, you feel like you are along the coast of Scotland or Ireland out here, remote and beautiful. We did a lot of stuff on the bluff, including puffs on the bluff, getting rough on the bluff, getting buff on the bluff, cops came and brought cuffs to the bluff, finally we said enough with the bluff. I'm not bluffing you. Debby (the owner) was very responsive, a pleasure to work with, and coordinated with me on different notes, leading up to the trip dates. Everyone had an amazing time in this baller house."

  • This deserves all the five star reviews it is receiving!

"We stayed here for a family wedding/family reunion. The home itself is lovely and spacious. Free Wi-Fi and TV made relaxing easy. The beds were comfortable and bedrooms roomy. The very best part for me was having nothing between us and the ocean. We had a private staircase down to the beach which was never crowded. You could sit in the hot tub and watch the waves roll in. With Brookings and Crescent City both within a reasonable driving distance it was easy to pick up groceries and anything else you forgot. There is even a walking trail through some of the Redwoods less than 30 minutes away.( We are new to VRBO so neglected to bring basics like shampoo and soap. Thankfully someone brought a blow dryer. )"

  • Truly 5 Stars!

"Hi Richard, Returned yesterday evening from some very special days in Humboldt County! We enjoyed our time at the Whale’s Tale very much – it was so comfortable and completely relaxing. We found the view out the back ever changing and mesmerizing! In addition to beautiful cloud formations, roaring sea, and tidal changes in the river, we enjoyed watching an osprey perch on the big dead tree that rises from the river bottom. We were also amazed and surprised as we watched a school of salmon come up the river – some of them coming almost completely out of the water. And while not completely certain that we saw otters – we definitely did watch two furry mammals swimming in the river. They were a ways off so maybe they were just muskrats --but a quick look up on Google said that otters do inhabit the lower reaches of the Mad River -- so maybe. When we arrived Tuesday afternoon the forecast told us we had only Wednesday to enjoy outdoor activities but, instead, the storm held off until Saturday morning! We hiked in the redwood forest in Prairie Creek State Park, searched for agates at Agate Beach, took a long walk at extreme low tide at Clam Beach, took some special photos at Luffenholtz Beach, and walked a stretch of the Hammond Trail. We visited some shops in Arcata and Trinidad and one of our favorites experiences was walking along misty trails in the Arcata Community Forest. We tried to take in as much as possible over just a few days and it was really great coming ‘home’ at the end of an adventurous day and enjoying the peacefulness and serenity of your lovely home. We want to come back!!"
