  • Enchanting Home in Perfect Location

"My family of four, including two teenage boys, came to Balboa Island for five nights so we could be close to UC Irvine for my son's Orientation. It was just over a 10 minute drive to the campus and it only took us about 25 minutes to visit friends who live in Laguna Beach. This enchanting home on Balboa island was just around the corner from the main street and we walked around the island for a half hour walk every morning. The views were amazing and the people we encountered were all very friendly, including Jill, the owner who was residing in the upper unit above the garage. She was very helpful telling us where to park when friends came to visit, where to find the grocery store and how to catch the five minute ferry to the Balboa Peninsula. The home was well stocked and very comfortable. We loved opening all the doors and my husband worked at the patio and inside table for a couple hours early every morning. We went on a narrated 90 boat tour around the island one day and our boys parasailed another day. The restaurants in the area were all delicious and the I loved the store in town with local artwork. We would definitely stay here again and will recommend this little gem to friends and family."

  • Amazing weekend at The Retreat!

"My wife and I celebrated our 15 year anniversary at the Retreat, in the Belle Mare unit. We loved everything about the property. The waves breaking below us, the gorgeous sunsets, the lounge deck, steps from the beach. We parked our car when we arrived on Thursday, and didn't need to get in it again until we left on Sunday. We were walking distance to ALL of our favorite restaurants, breakfast cafes, rooftop lounges, and shopping. We will be coming back to the Retreat, for sure. Restaurant suggestions: The Cliff (breakfast), The Deck (lunch and sunset), Sky Loft (lunch, dinner, sunset, late night), Nick's (breakfast, dinner, late night), Rooftop Lounge (lunch, sunset, K'ya Bistro (dinner)."

  • Highly Recommended

"We were so lucky to have found this place. We felt very much at home and safe here. The house is in a lovely neighbourhood and very close to the beach. It is very well furnished and the owners are so generous with extras that one doesn't normally expect in a holiday rental. The kitchen came with useful condiments such as salt, pepper, spices and even a full bottle of cooking oil. Dishwashing detergents were also supplied. It was so handy having a washing machine and dryer at our disposal. Washing powder was also shared with us. The bathroom came with a big bottle of body wash, not the usual tiny packs that you normally get in hotels. The place is really set up like a family guest house. We were also allowed to use their bikes which gave us the perfect opportunity to explore Newport and surrounds. We were also privileged to have met the owners, Kathy and Pete - two of the friendliest people we've met. They were so warm and accommodating. Even their dog, Rico, was friendly and quickly became playmates with my 11yr old son. Kathy and Pete even extended their hospitality towards us in their own home by inviting us over for dinner on our last night and taking us to the Newport Boat Parade. We really cannot thank them enough for being the most wonderful host and for welcoming us in their lovely beach house. We hope to return to Newport one day and when we do, we will definitely stay at 308 Alvarado Place again."
