  • Lovely home on the Grand Canal

"Our hosts, Hart and Anke, could not have been more accommodating. They have decorated this home beautifully - from the bedding to the furniture. Comfortable and elegant. And the elevator was fantastic for my three aunts in their 80s and 90s. Great location, great view, great vibe! Thank you!!"

  • Old School Balboa Island Charm

"We were at the tail end of a house remodel and intended to stay here a week. But as many house remodel delays go, we stayed here for a full month. We REALLY liked this house. It worked well for our family of five (16, 14, and 10 year old kids). It has beach cottage charm. Everything worked great. Below is a quick list of pros and cons: Pros: Clean and beautiful and everything worked Parking (driveway) - This cannot be overstated. You can usually find a spot on the street but with two cars it was nice to know that there was always a spot for one of us to park in the driveway. Backyard - This is one of the few houses on the island with a full size backyard. We celebrated a birthday in the backyard with 19 people and it was great. Location - It is only three houses from the beach. We were able to transport our kayaks and paddle boards to the beach with relative ease. It is also only two blocks from main street and convenient for after dinner Balboa Bar/Frozen Banana runs. Last, the location makes it pretty easy to get on and off the island pretty quickly. Owner/Manager - We had a few correspondences with both the owner and property manager. They are both wonderful and accommodating. Cons (these were not a big deal for our family but they are worth noting): Stairs - The stairs are moderately narrow. However, they have handrails on either side that make it easier to get up for us older folks. Bathroom - There are two bathrooms. There is one bathroom upstairs that is a jack and jill bathroom to two bedrooms. That bathroom only has a bathtub (no shower). The bathroom downstairs has a shower and it is a good shower. In conclusion, we loved this house. It still has the beach cottage feel. It is not a ritzy house with sub zero refrigerators and viking ovens. However, it is clean, comfortable, and an overall great place."

  • I cannot imagine a more perfect place for a family vacation!

"The beach cottage is close to the bay for beach time and activities like kayaking and paddle boarding. And it is a short ferry ride to the beach and fun zone for kids. Everything inside has been remodeled and I cannot imagine how it could have been done better. Absolutely beautiful. We also rented a golf cart for the week to get around the Island and take it downtown for a few outings. We will be back for sure!"

  • comfortable unit, great location, responive and helpful landlords

"The apartment is in a great location on Balboa Island and part of the downtown area. It is located above a restaurant (which is a must visit) with live music but this was not an issue. The unit was very clean and the owners were very responsive to several small issues that needed to be fixed. Their restaurant, The Village Inn, is very good and as mentioned does have regularly scheduled live music. On main street Ciao is good for Italian food and there is a market across the street. The island is a wonderful area to walk and we averaged 10 miles + per day. You can rent bikes and take the ferry to the Balboa peninsula and ride along the ocean, stopping to have lunch at one of the nice restaurants."
