  • Perfect writer's retreat

"This is a beautiful spot and steps from sand, restaurants and adventure. This place has it all and you won't be disappointed. My writing partner and I had the most amazing and inspiring weekend."

  • Beautiful home in a beautiful location = a beautiful experience

"We often go to the beach as a family, but this was the first time renting a home at the beach. Russ made the experience easy and trouble free. The home was beautiful, clean, well-appointed and elegantly furnished. It felt less like a rental and more like being invited to a friend or relative’s home. My wife and I have 3 young children and the beach is just steps away from the home between the 2 piers. The location was away from the party centered homes that lay close to the pier. It was perfect for the family. It afforded a more intimate and private experience on the sand. Wine and chocolates were waiting for us when we arrived, place settings to have an elegant dinner at home or just to enjoy the wonderful roof top deck. Russ was extremely responsive and professional making the experience feel like an upscale hotel. Restaurants are close and Russ provides a book with his reviews and selections of his favorites in the area, we tried several. We loved Gina's Pizza for causal dinner and the Stuft Surfer for breakfast (which is only a block from the house). The home is loaded with amenities, one of them being beach bikes in the garage! Me and my son spent the mornings riding bikes and picking up breakfast from some of the local eateries while the rest of the family slept. Truly a wonderful and unique experience for the family. We were looking for something that could bring us closer as a family and something that we could make a tradition. We cannot wait come back. I highly recommend it."

  • Best Family Vacation Ever!

"The reviews were accurate, this place is PEFECT for a family vacation! Two things sold us on this place, 1) the location between both piers, and 2) the patio and bbq, and after working with Jim (the relator), I'd have to say he's the third reason you want this place! Ok yeah, the appliances and furnishings were a little dated (brand new fridge and bbq) but EVERYTHING worked just fine - honestly we bbq'd every afternoon and evening anyway so rarely needed the oven/stove or microwave. The house sleeps 12 comfortably. It has a nice flat screen in the family room (with HBO), and wireless internet access which came in handy. A nice large dining room table to use for playing games or meals ... we ate outside most of the time on the patio table. the master bedroom has a superb view and a little patio of it's own that you can enjoy an ocean view while having your coffee in the morning. I would recommend you pick up you food and drinks at Costco prior to checking in as the Von's Pavilion was the only grocery store nearby and we found them to be a bit pricey. Also, plan on bringing any special herbs and spices as there was just the basic in the cupboards (we left a few extra spices to help build up the options). Another great thing is that Jim provides parking for two vehicles in a garage! A huge bonus that came in handy as everyone was jockeying for parking spots on the street. All in all, I would HIGHLY recommend you consider this property first - I know we plan to stay again next year around the same time and I'll probably book it a year in advance so no one snatches it up. Thanks for a great time Jim! My family loved the vacation!"

  • Highly Recommended

"We were so lucky to have found this place. We felt very much at home and safe here. The house is in a lovely neighbourhood and very close to the beach. It is very well furnished and the owners are so generous with extras that one doesn't normally expect in a holiday rental. The kitchen came with useful condiments such as salt, pepper, spices and even a full bottle of cooking oil. Dishwashing detergents were also supplied. It was so handy having a washing machine and dryer at our disposal. Washing powder was also shared with us. The bathroom came with a big bottle of body wash, not the usual tiny packs that you normally get in hotels. The place is really set up like a family guest house. We were also allowed to use their bikes which gave us the perfect opportunity to explore Newport and surrounds. We were also privileged to have met the owners, Kathy and Pete - two of the friendliest people we've met. They were so warm and accommodating. Even their dog, Rico, was friendly and quickly became playmates with my 11yr old son. Kathy and Pete even extended their hospitality towards us in their own home by inviting us over for dinner on our last night and taking us to the Newport Boat Parade. We really cannot thank them enough for being the most wonderful host and for welcoming us in their lovely beach house. We hope to return to Newport one day and when we do, we will definitely stay at 308 Alvarado Place again."
