"Our family of five stayed here for a week. It’s a great location, close to attractions and beaches both up and down the coast, from Long Beach down to Newport and beyond. HB is a very fun and convenient spot to have as a central base for a nice SoCal vacation. The beach there is great for surfing/boogie boards, walking, biking on the paths, etc. I personally recommend going to Crystal Cove State Park to the south, and Naples Island to the north--two of my favorite places!
There are 3 cruiser bikes available (bring your own helmet if that’s important to you) which are great to ride along the beach boardwalk. There are also several boogie boards, a beach umbrella and sand toys. There were a few beach chairs available but generally they were heavy and/or broken so we didn't use them. According to my “MapMyWalk” app, it’s 1/3 mile from the front door to the sand on the beach, (add another block or two if you want to cross PCH at a crosswalk).
You’ll get your own key code to unlock the door so no need to keep track of a house key, which is great. Off-street parking in the alley. The house itself could be described as “shabby chic”—a bit rundown in the furnishings with an abundance of straight-back chairs both inside and out, but overall very adequate and spacious enough for a family of five. Note that the following items are not provided so you’ll want to bring them with or buy at your earliest convenience: laundry detergent, paper towels/wipes/rags, paper napkins. There are 2 kitchen towels and a new dish sponge provided but that's it. There are plenty of nice bathroom towels and two small beach towels. You need to bring cash or a cashier’s check/money order for the payment upon arrival—no credit cards beyond the initial deposit."
