"The property is well maintained and inviting. Close to all amenities and of course the beach. Would stay here again!"

  • Southern California Beach Paradise

"Our family of four (twin teen boys & Mom & Dad) had an awesome time in the Wyndham Oceanside Pier Resort. We had a great 2BR suite on the 6th floor with a northern view that included the beach. The resort is very close to the beach (right across the street) and the beach is gorgeous - no sea wrack, very wide, clean sand. The resort is right beside the long fishing pier (poles for rent and bait for sale on the pier!) and on either side of the pier the waves are perfect for surfing (our sons got their first surfing lessons). The suite was very spacious, with a large living room, a great booth and chair type eating area, two great bedrooms & bathrooms, a well appointed kitchen, and a balcony. The washer and dryer were very heavily used during our two week stay and allowed us to pack less! We typically cooked breakfast in the suite and headed out to the beach or other activities - if we went to the beach we usually prepared lunch in the suite and then went out for dinner - this really reduced food costs. There are lots of great eating choices within walking distance - Petite Madeline, Hello Betty, ZigZag Pizza and 333 were all very close and are recommended - and about a 15-20 minute walk north along the beach there is also a cluster of restaurants - Oceanside Broiler had great food and a nice view of the small boat harbor, Joe's Crab Shack had great inexpensive family seafood (warning - if you elect to buy a picture pay CASH). The resort itself is clean, modern and has a very friendly staff - there are activities daily - examples include a $5 breakfast, afternoon ice cream sundae parties, evening Italian dinner, and mosaic making - a nice way to meet others. There is a pool - not huge but fine for kids - and a great deck area to relax after visiting the beach (there are showers in the 2nd floor restroom to wash off the sand). A really nice feature is that there are two suites reserved for general use on the 7th floor facing the ocean - was a great spot to sit with a bottle of wine and watch the sunset. The fact that this is a Wyndham property instead of a house rental really takes a lot of the uncertainty away from booking a VRBO - you can confirm your reservation with the resort, you are dealing with a major corporation, and any issues are just a phone call away and usually resolved within the hour. Nearby there are lots of recreation opportunities - just south on I-5 there is a great watersports area called Carlsbad Lagoon (jet ski's = fun). Enjoy!"

  • Nice place and okay value for the money

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was more than happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall we enjoyed our stay and working with beach front only was great, however we would not stay here again. There were a few things that could use improvement to meet customers expectations. The master bed mattress needs to be replaced asap, it's sides are shot so you feel like you're rolling out, we even rotated the mattress, new pillows and a real frame would help too. These don't work: the spa jets. The vacuum. The deck fire pit. The mstr tub/shower backs up so you are standing water. The left front burner of the stove needs to be lit with a lighter/match. The biggest bummer is the 3+ year old photos showing a sandy beach in front. The next door neighbor we chatted with says 3 years ago the El Nino year took their sandy beach away and dropped the boulders 15 feet, and the sand has never returned. I appreciate the comment in the description of the property saying the sand varies but the sand is not there and is not coming back soon and the photos should be changed! Recycling instructions in the booklet, and a recycling trash bin in the kitchen would be nice. For the neighbors downstairs, felt pads on the dining room chairs would be nice. We are not using the heat but instructions on how to use the wall heaters would be nice too. We definitely enjoyed our stay at this great rental, but it lacks some of the conveniences of a home. It's strictly a rental and obvious that the owners never stay there like most vrbo's, there are no conveniences of home on the property. For the price it's a good value as Oceanside on the beach is very expensive ($1000/sqft to buy). Cheers, B."
