Recent San Francisco Bay Area reviews

  • Great place to stay in SF

    Robert C.

"My wife and I just spent a week in San Francisco and thoroughly enjoyed it. Dana's sunroom was ideal for us. It was clean and the location, in a neighborhood that was quiet, where the people were friendly, and that felt very safe to walk around in, was just what we wanted. Within easy walking distance were some restaurants and a Whole Foods market, as well as small shops and convenience stores. We particularly liked Casa Mexicana on Church St. for fresh, tasty Mexican food. We had no need to rent a car, preferring to use public transportation. The nearest MUNI stop is within a 5 minute walk and connects to any part of the city you would want to visit. Buying a CityPass or a weekly MUNI pass makes it economical as well. And as the weekly rate for the rental was so reasonable, much cheaper than staying in a downtown hotel, more money could be spent on enjoying the many activities available in the bay area. We particularly enjoyed visiting Muir Woods, the Coit Tower, the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz (on a night tour, which is less crowded than ones during the day), and ATT Park for a Giants game. I highly recommend, if you are able to handle the walking, the Real SF tour, which, between walking and using public transportation, is a day-long, small-group guided tour of many neighborhoods and sites in the city. We took it on our first day and as it was so informative about the history of the city and it's various neighborhoods, helped us greatly during the remainder of our stay to make use of the MUNI easier, to appreciate the diversity of the city, and to help us decide which neighborhoods and attractions we wanted to explore further. During our stay Dana was the perfect host, helpful and concerned that our visit was going smoothly. He was always available if needed but in no way intrusive. To be fair with this review, there are a few, small quirks about the sunroom that we had to adjust to but they were quite minor, namely no sink in the bathroom and no available freezer/ice maker if you wanted ice cubes for a drink. And as Dana makes everyone well aware in his listing, there is the 43-step, twisty flight of stairs that must be climbed to reach the sunroom. We are both in our mid-50s and while it is certainly navigable, it does require some care doing so. But again, to us these were all minor inconveniences and we would definitely stay here again if we were to return to San Francisco. Thanks for everything Dana--we had a great vacation!"

  • Beautiful location!

    Beth B.

"This vineyard apartment was absolutely beautiful! The location was just lovely; overlooking their vineyard, the mountains and the clear blue California sky. It was very quiet and private. We were able to walk to the local coffee shop each morning, enjoy the town of Sonoma (minutes away) and visit many wineries and restaurants that were recommended by Lucy. It was hard to leave and go back to reality! I would highly recommend this location."

  • Great to Relax

    Michael B.

"I just wanted to say thank you for the use of your house. The accommodations were very nice and there was nothing we needed that wasn't there. The heat worked well which I always appreciate being a cold blooded soul. We had a very nice time, maybe one of our best in Healdsburg in many years. We went to Chalkboard on Tuesday night and the meal was very nice, we went to Vallete on Wednesday night and if it wasn't the best meal we've ever eaten it was certainly in the class picture. The service, the courtesy and certainly the meals themselves were amazing. Last night we went to John Ash in north Santa Rosa and had a very nice Thanksgiving meal. We went to Matrix and VML right together and bought pinot from both. Very good. We went to Dutton Goldfield a past favorite and rekindled our relationship with some of the best pinot we've tasted in some time. We also went to Pappapietry Perry as always and bought a full box of pinot from them so all in all we had to leave town while we had any money left. We'll definitely be back!"
