  • Fabulous Find!

"Here’s the bottom line: We booked our next stay in Arun and Suzy’s apartment when we were just halfway through our first (month-long) visit. The apartment is spacious, comfortable, immaculate, and exactly as pictured and described on the website. It has an excellent kitchen for those who want to cook. There are two decks, and views of the Bay to the west, the Berkeley Hills to the east, and downtown Oakland to the south. And the windows overlook Suzy’s beautiful garden. The location can’t be beat. Situated between Solano and the Gourmet Ghetto (on Shattuck), the apartment is within walking distance of at least three first-class restaurants; ethnic food of every description; and a wonderful little tacqueria (Cactus, on Solano). Also the Monterey Market, the Monterey Fish Market, and a good wine shop beside them. Also supermarkets; new and used bookstores; ATM; and even a nice little gym. Easy on-street parking. But you don’t really need a car, unless you want to leave the Bay Area, since it’s only a twenty-minute walk to the North Berkeley BART station. Arun and Suzy, who live downstairs, couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful, from our first dealings to our departure."

  • Favorite place to stay in the Bay Area

"This is a wonderful apartment. It is sparkling clean, artistically furnished, and the owners are so easy and accommodating. My husband and I have stayed in this rental once before, and always check to see if it is available when we want to return to the SF Bay area. It usually is not, sad to say, and that is unsurprising, given the value, comfort and beauty of the apartment and surrounding area. To mention just a few things: the apartment is well soundproofed, so that you cannot hear sounds from the living room when you are in the bedroom. The bath is also completely soundproofed, and though the owners live directly above, you cannot hear them either. It is very private. Parking on the street is always available and there is little traffic. At the bottom of the hill is a wonderful market where we picked up something to fix for dinner in the small but fully functional kitchen of this lovely apartment. Most of all, we loved looking out the windows and watching the birds, including a big flock of wild turkeys who paraded through while we were there. Every night when we came home to the flat, we felt so good. I can't tell you how relaxing this place is and how comfortable we felt being there. When we left, we forgot to pick up our camera battery which had been charging overnight. Lori found it and mailed it to us right away, which is something we really consider above and beyond the call of duty. You can't go wrong here. This is the best apartment for two we've ever found; great owners, comfortable bed, and everything you could possibly want. Thank you Lori for making it available for us. We hope your place is available when next we visit."

  • Beyond our expectations

"How often can you say something exceeds your expectations? That's just how we felt about our stay at Laurie's condo in Emeryville. The location was incredible, but we knew that ahead of time. What we didn't know was how beautiful the condo was going to be. From the Ralph Lauren silverware to the grand piano in the living room, it was one of the most elegantly comfortable places we've stayed in a long time. We were met at two in the morning by our incredibly caring host, Laurie, who welcomed us warmly. The kitchen was perfectly appointed and we never looked for anything we couldn't find -- from sugar and salt to ziplock and garbage bags to spices and condiments. Thank you Laurie for the care you most obviously put into making this a welcoming experience. We will definitely be back."
