  • Retirement stay exceeds expectations

"We just spent two lovely weeks in Bahia Retreat. Our son and his family moved to Sonoma County several years ago. When we visited them for the first time, they took us to Bodega Bay for a walk on the beach. We decided then to return one day for an extended visit. Luckily for us, we found Bahai Retreat on the VRBO website. Pictures on websites often exaggerate the size and beauty of a location: Not this one! Immediately upon entering we knew we had a treat in store. Windows from end to end opened up the entire Bodega Bay landscape to our eyes. When we first arrived in late afternoon, the mist was gathering but soon cleared to reveal the entire panorama. In addition to the seashore, daily we watched huge hares, great blue herons, quails, and even a bobcat in the brush and fields behind the house. The walk down to the beach revealed barn owls, more quail, hummingbirds, jays and many other small birds flying around. How to describe the beach? Great flocks of pelicans, seagulls, rails and other shore birds. The ancient rocks of the California coast created truly mystical scenes in the shifting clouds. The kitchen was amply supplied with almost any device one needs to cook. The bedrooms shared the panoramic windows. On our first night we watched the full moon set over Bodega Bay from the master bedroom. Our children and grandchildren reveled in the hot tub. Having just retired, we hoped our two weeks in Bahia Retreat would recalibrate our sense of reality. It truly happened and we hope to return again for another visit."

  • Charming house in a beautiful setting

"Helen's House is a hidden jewel nestled in the rustic beauty of Point Reyes. Upon entering the house we were captivated by the breath taking view of Tomales Bay. The house is cozy, comfortable and extremely welcoming. The furnishings and art work are inviting and relaxing and the house is well stocked and immaculately clean. The surrounding property grounds are really lovely, full of trees, other foliage and lots of wonderful flowering plants with birds and other small creatures flitting and scurrying around creating a tranquil and peaceful sanctuary. Dotted throughout the grounds are beautiful and fascinating metal sculptures and other art work. Helen's House served as a great base to further explore Pt Reyes National Seashore as well as enjoy jaunts over to Pt. Reyes Station for lunch and shopping. When we returned from our outings we were always happy to be coming "home" to Helen's House. Point Reyes is definitely one of our favorite get away spots, made all the more special this trip by our stay at Helen's House. We hope to return again to this enchanting oasis."

  • John and Jane

"We loved the property! Very comfortable house to stay for mobile adults. Location is good and urban setting is realistic of typical San Fran living. The garage is a challenge, but do able."

  • Relaxing escape

"We were 2 old couples and 1 old dog off for a week away from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco, and we loved this place! Imagine strolling 30 feet down a sandy lane to the best part of Stinson beach. You don't even need shoes! We set up our beach spot within easy walking distance of the cottage as well as the cute little downtown and then let the relaxation begin. And it did, all week long. Jerry and Hollis met us to show us around the cottage, and we had everything we needed to cook the many meals we enjoyed together. There was plenty of space to hang out, especially when utilizing what we called 'the napping loft.' The loft space is just above the main living area, and is furnished with daybeds and a big, comfortable recliner. One can rest and read while listening to the conversation going on below, and choose whether to chime in or nod off. It so nice to be able to fall asleep to the sounds of loved ones talking! We could also walk to dinner, which freed us up to enjoy wine with our meals. The small grocery store had all the basics, and the bike rental place is right down the street. (They also rent snorkeling gear.) In fact, we only used our cars once or twice the whole week, when we wanted to explore further north. Highly recommended for those in search of a relaxing beach getaway!"
