  • Repeat Guests to Fish Inn

"We've been repeat guests to the Fish Inn over Labor Day weekend for the past few years and it continues to charm. This place is great for dog owners because it's got a fenced backyard that abuts the National Forest - there's literally the National Forest Boundary sign next to the fence so no neighbors behind the Fish Inn (except the wildlife). Every morning and evening we'd take the dogs out the back gate on an easy walk up the trail paralleling Hat Creek. The cabin is perfect - enough linens, kitchen utensils, kitchen wares, dishes, pots, pans, glass ware, etc. New to the cabin are two fans for each bedroom. The bedroom off the kitchen had the smaller fan which worked great to get some air flow. We loved sitting on the front porch in the morning and evening relaxing. Our dogs loved it too - we often found them sitting on the front porch with paws draped over the front step enjoying the cool mountain air. This is a great little cabin centrally located - almost equidistant to Lassen National Park in one direction and Burney in the other direction. We checked out Subway Cave, Butte Lake, took in the Inter-Mountain Fair in McArthur, and ate excellent pizza at Uptown Pizza in Fall River Mills. The night sky is definitely not washed out by city lights - there are so many stars to be seen, my husband had a hard time identifying some common constellations because of so many stars! The night sky doesn't disappoint!"

  • Great Location and Relaxing

"I've come to Burney in the past for a guys fishing trip where we either camped or stayed in a motel. This trip my wife and I were celebrating our 35th anniversary so it had be a nice place than where I've stayed in the past. This place was perfect in every way. Close to the town of Burney to get supplies, near world renowned fly fishing trout streams, beautiful Burney Falls at McArthur-Burney State Park and less than an hours drive to Lassen National Park. The guest house is tastefully decorated in a country decor, very clean and comfortable. It has a full modern kitchen where we cooked most of the time just so we can enjoy our meals in the serenity of the back deck area. The back lawn is great to enjoy a glass of wine while taking in the scenery with the local friendly pets and wildlife. We hiked the grounds of the 35 acre ranch full of pine trees and manzanita brush. If you have a need to connect there's a big screen tv with satellite and wifi service. The main house is nearby but is situated to provide privacy to the guest house. We met the gracious owners Ed and Lori who thought of everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The only knock I can think of is you can hear the highway from a distance but I hardly notice. I highly recommend this place."

  • Great location, wonderful house, very well appointed

"We loved the house on the 16th Fairway. Beautiful house. Well designed. Everything you could need for a great vacation. Quality throughout. We had a small problem with an appliance and the owner was back to us immediately with a fix. Fall River area a little known California gem. Highly recommend"

  • I really want to give this property 5 stars...

"Pros: Owner is very nice. The home is cozy and in a rustic neighborhood. Scenery is beautiful and neighborhood is quiet. (Only exceptions were there were several door-to-door solicitors that came by each day. That's out of anyone's control.) Yard seems fenced and is large. Beautiful, hand-crafted quilts and afghans on all beds. Well-behaved dogs are allowed. Couch covers are provided so your dog can join you on the huge, sofa. You can park your car right near the front door for easy loading and unloading. View of mountains from upstairs. Nice master bathroom upstairs and small one downstairs. Tile and hardwood floors downstairs and carpet in bedroom downstairs and upstairs. Kitchen stocked with plates, glasses, & cookware. Groceries are available with a 20-minute drive. Owner is a published author and has copies of her book in the entryway. Cons: Major item was that prior (multiple?) visitors' garbage was rotting in the garage and it smelled so bad it made your eyes water in the kitchen... and then permeated the rest of the house. The odor crept in, even with both the garage and laundry room doors closed. During the day, we kept the windows open so it was yucky but bearable. However, when we left for the day or during the night, we had to close/lock the windows... and it was bad. The prior residents were supposed to take out the trash but, obviously, they weren't aware or didn't do it anyway. The owner apologized about the smell. Minor stuff: Check with the owner beforehand about availability if you or your kids really want a pool experience. When we visited, the pool was a froggie pond. Although our kids were disappointed, I totally understand that it must be hard to keep up an outdoor pool. I would hate to drain it because clearly its own eco-system as it is now. BBQ on backyard deck was too gross to use with brown mystery goop on the tanks. Again, it's country so maybe it was birds because I could hear lots of geese by the river. Or, prior tenants could have cleaned up after themselves better. We cooked inside and that was fine. Hand soaps were non-existent or empty but, fortunately, we travel with bar soap as backup. Coffee maker was gross so we cleaned it. Same for the stove top. Place mats were not washed so we just flipped them over and hoped for the best. Cleaning person must have had an off day. Overall it was a nice stay and we would return if the garbage situation is addressed."
