  • Desirable rental...but

"This property has the potential of being a very desirable rental once you get past a very poor first impression: leaning fence, broken step, rickety hand rail, laundry room smell of cat urine and broken door handle. Once inside the cabin is clean (except for the Windows) and comfortable. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen well equipped. The covered porch is wonderful for sitting, eating ,barbecuing, deer watching, etc. The ceiling fan is a very nice touch as it was HOT during our visit. The safety issues addressed in an earlier review have not been fixed. The shower still has no mat (we donated one) and used a towel for a step out mat. The stair hand rail is still very loose. Safety issues aside small details (bathroom towel ring kept falling, living room entry door handle was tricky, etc) did not ruin our pleasant stay. The location is excellent. The fishing is convenient(check for best time of year to get the "big ones"). We had a very peaceful and enjoyable week with our son and grandson! D"

  • Beautiful spot. Secluded. You can see and hear the river. Heidi and steph were great!

"We really enjoyed our stay it was a first for our family to do something like that. We would have used the river front more except for the mosquitos. I felt bad about knocking on the door when we had a question instead of being able to call because the phones are connected and our cell phones didn't call out. However they were very gracious about it. Thank you Heidi and steph for a memorable vacation!!"

  • Amazing riverfront stay in a charming Gold Rush-era cabin

"We had a wonderful, relaxing stay at the Miner's Cabin. Heidi and Steph were great hosts. They were easy to reach before our trip when we had questions or asked for recommendations, but during our stay, our privacy was completely respected. The cabin itself was rustic and full of charm, but fairly well-stocked. We imagined what the cabin must've been like before it was restored – How many miners would live here? Where did they sleep? These days, it's a great retreat for those who don't expect an immaculate, luxurious, tech-enabled hotel stay when they're out in the woods. That means small, creative spaces (a shower and toilet sharing the same space -- no sink; a steep ladder to a lofted bed; no stove, but a microwave and toaster oven, and a grill on the outdoor fire pit) and of course, pretty spotty wi-fi and cell phone connection. We appreciated the free long-distance calling on the landline, and for the most part, that we could almost completely disconnect from the world for a couple of days. We – and our Formosan Mountain Dog, Benny – also greatly appreciated that the cabin is dog-friendly. We came to Trinity County to get away from city life and hit the nearby hiking trails. We visited Whiskeytown Falls on the way to Douglas City, meandered some of the Weaver Basin Trails, and drove through the Trinity Alps, but we could've easily just spent more time sitting on the Adirondack chairs on the Miner's Landing at the cabin. From this little piece of heaven, we watched the olive green Trinity River rush by, as well as the many birds, butterflies, and other wildlife that call the area home. We cooked meals in the fire pit and sat by the glowing logs as night fell. On our last evening at the Miner's Cabin, we spied a majestic bald eagle perched in the treetops of a nearby pine (Fortunately, we had brought binoculars). A magical ending to a magical weekend."

  • Wedding weekend

"We had our wedding here and it was PERFECT! The grounds are so beautiful we had lots of compliments on the location. Dave was great throughout the whole planning process and during our stay. He was willing to try to accomodate all of my (sometimes extraordinary) requests, and was very easy to communicate with. The caterer was over the moon with their fantastic commercial kitchen and large dining room. We had a great time and hope to come back in the near future!!"
