  • Retirement stay exceeds expectations

"We just spent two lovely weeks in Bahia Retreat. Our son and his family moved to Sonoma County several years ago. When we visited them for the first time, they took us to Bodega Bay for a walk on the beach. We decided then to return one day for an extended visit. Luckily for us, we found Bahai Retreat on the VRBO website. Pictures on websites often exaggerate the size and beauty of a location: Not this one! Immediately upon entering we knew we had a treat in store. Windows from end to end opened up the entire Bodega Bay landscape to our eyes. When we first arrived in late afternoon, the mist was gathering but soon cleared to reveal the entire panorama. In addition to the seashore, daily we watched huge hares, great blue herons, quails, and even a bobcat in the brush and fields behind the house. The walk down to the beach revealed barn owls, more quail, hummingbirds, jays and many other small birds flying around. How to describe the beach? Great flocks of pelicans, seagulls, rails and other shore birds. The ancient rocks of the California coast created truly mystical scenes in the shifting clouds. The kitchen was amply supplied with almost any device one needs to cook. The bedrooms shared the panoramic windows. On our first night we watched the full moon set over Bodega Bay from the master bedroom. Our children and grandchildren reveled in the hot tub. Having just retired, we hoped our two weeks in Bahia Retreat would recalibrate our sense of reality. It truly happened and we hope to return again for another visit."

  • Beautiful Bay View Home

"We absolutely loved this home! The home is immaculate and beautifully decorated. We loved the local artwork and the candles that are on timers throughout the home. There are heated mattresses that allowed us to sleep very comfortably. The movie collection has some really good movies. We watched the "Birds" and then went sight seeing in town to try to find some of the places where they were filmed. If you enjoy hiking, you can leave your car and walk directly from the house to numerous trails to the beach. We had great Mexican food right across the street from the property and also enjoyed some fabulous meals at Gourmet Au Bay and Terrapin Creek Cafe. I usually don't rent houses that allow dogs because they are usually a bit funky, but this house was different. It was very clean and ...well just perfect. We usually stay at the Bodega Bay Lodge just up the road, but loved having a kitchen and more space for parking our boat. I would highly recommend this VRBO property. Thank you Janice for the bottle of wine - it made us feel welcome and was very nice."

  • Beautiful Home and View - Great Girls weekend

"We had 8 women in our 40s meet up at Chateau Relax-O for a girls weekend. The house has amazing views and the rooms are all nice. The best part is the front living room overlooking the ocean. There is a lot of seating so we could all hang out together. A few steps above that is the TV room, also with big comfy sofas. The only thing I would caution is if you plan to sleep on one of the "sleeping mats." I hate sharing a bed so I slept on one the first night but is was really uncomfortable (hard and thin so like sleeping on the floor). As a result, I did share a bed the following night because I wanted to remain in the master bedroom (nicest room). The bed was very comfortable. We hired a private chef to cook for us on Sat. night and that went well. The kitchen had everything we needed but I suggest getting dinner size plates that aren't plastic - it kind of cheapened the private chef experience. Also, note that the BBQ is somewhat small for 8 people (I think 2 burners) so we had to cook our Fri dinner in batches. Overall, we had a great stay and wonderful, relaxing time catching up with one another. That was our main goal and this is a wonderful house for staying in. We visited Sebastapol to check out the local area and soon realized we would have been better off if we hadn't left the house for the day."
