  • Incredible and peaceful.

"My sisters went for a reunion together. It's so peaceful and quiet there. Great for relaxation. The house is gorgeous inside and furnished so that you don't bring much but clothes. We were amazed at how the deer were tame enough to be so close in your yard. We made a game of counting deer just on the road that led to town! City market (grocery store) was close enough to make a quick run. If you want to feed the chipmunks at the crossing in St. Elmo, bring your own sunflower seeds if you go during off season. The mercantile store is closed. Salida is such a fun town-so artsy and old fashioned. The views are incredible in whatever direction you go! The house, the town, the peace, there is nothing more to say. If you want to get away and live in comfort and peace, get up in the morning with a hot cup of coffee, step out on the deck, say hello to the deer, take a deep breath of mountain air and stare at the beauty around you, then this is it! Thank you Maura! From the Boone girls."

  • Family Anniversary Holiday!

"We are from Colorado and my parents lived in Nathrop for many years. We were seeking a comfortable home where we could have my parents, my husband, my brother and me all comfortably stay and enjoy time together My parents were celebrating their 50th Anniversary and my husband and I our was a perfect week! The setting could not have been more beautiful and the home more perfectly appointed. I won't be surprised if we all decide to stay in the same location during the next family adventure!"

  • Fantastic getaway

"If your looking for a romantic, quiet getaway in a quaint little town, this is the place to stay. I can be rather picky when it comes to my accommodations, and this one did not disappoint. It is a small, lovely decorated, modern home. We felt more like we were staying at a friends home rather than a vacation rental. We arrived after an unexpected snow storm; the Lewis' notified us of the conditions beforehand, suggested an AWD vehicle and made sure to have the driveway to the house cleared. We had a little issue with frozen pipes the next morning, but their caretakers were very prompt in getting the issue fixed. The kitchen is nicely equipped, furniture is not worn, nice linens. The bed takes a little getting used to due to the foam pad. It was great relaxing in the hot tub with a light snow. We didn't get to take advantage of the porch and the river views due to the temp and snow, but it if I could suggest to the Lewis' some cushions for outside and request the renters to bring them in nightly. The gravel drive to the house is rather narrow in some places, no problem for a SUV, however unless you are seasoned with a trailer or camper, I wouldn't try it. Plenty of room to turn a vehicle around at the house. We would highly recommend this property for the house itself but also for the town. It is a small/friendly town (visit the Jailhouse Bar for great beer on tap and the Simple Eatery), take a hike along the Arkansas River at the end of Main Street, absolutely fantastic, especially in the snow."

  • Postcard Christmas!

"We absolutely loved our stay at Curt and Katie's chalet! The accommodations were spacious and comfortable, and the views were breathtaking! Our host and hostess were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The chalet is a 20-30 minute drive into the San Isabel National Forest (was winter and likely faster depending on road conditions) so it is far enough in to feel like we were getting away from it all but close enough to nearby Buena Vista and Salida to allow us to visit local restaurants and shops. The Goat Farm just outside of Buena Vista is a really neat place, and they sell some wonderful, locally made cheese and honey. The snowmobiling and dog sledding tours in nearby Monarch Ski Area are also quite an experience! We loved being able to spend a half day enjoying an activity and retreating back to the chalet to wind down, play cards and warm up by the fire. A short drive up the mountain to nearby St. Elmo was also a really neat experience as we got a glimpse of what life was like in the old days. Thanks to Curt and Katie for making our Christmas break one to remember!"
