  • Great place near some excellent backcountry

"This is a roomy, comfortable apartment, with all amenities as described. Janet is a great host. My terriers and I used this as a base to climb numerous 14ers; the Mt. Sherman trailhead is just a short drive away, and heading towards Breck there's some great backcountry. And don't forget the Buffalo Peaks trailhead just down the road; those are the peaks you see to the SW. In the immediate area of the house there are bristlecone pines and abundant wildlife. The dogs had a lot of fun chasing chipmunks and squirrels through the wood piles. A couple of nights, I could hear coyotes baying close by. Great place."

  • Beautiful and very comfortable!

"Thank you so much for letting us use the cabin this weekend's. We had a great time doing puzzles, watching movies, playing outside, and enjoying the hot tub. The level of detailed instructions was outstanding and answered any question we could have had. We hope to be able to come back soon."

  • What a fantastic little piece of secluded paradise!!

"The cabin is located not far from Fairplay. So it was an easy drive from Denver. We arrived in dark. GPS on iPhone these days really did a good job dropping you right in front of the driveway. So no worries there. We initially thought we would drive out the next day to explore and hike around the Montgomery Reservoir area, but the cabin was so cozy and the surrounding areas were so peaceful, we ended up ditching our plans and stayed in and around the cabin the entire weekend. We made breakfast, then took a walk into the aspen woods with our 6 year old daughter and 11 year old dog... We did picnic in the woods, the hot tub was a godsend...built fire in the wood burning stove (there was a fire restriction by the county when we visited)... roasted marshmallows... Played a lot of board and card games... We really enjoyed every moment. My daughter loved the loft. I think it was a brilliant setup to put kids up there.. She woke up early and there was a DVD player and a flat panel TV there. Karen has many awesome classics in the collection for you to use. My daughter was really thrilled to find Wall-E and Shrek in the collection. There is no cable TV and you can't stream movies. What we did was packing up an Apple TV, downloaded the digital copies of the movies on my iPhone and used Airplay to mirror the display from my phone to TV. Worked great!! We saw one live person the entire weekend!!! Talking about seclusive and get away from all!! My daughter already made me to promise to bring her back!! Thank you Karen for a wonderful memory we built as a family!"

  • Extraordinary home retreat!

"This log home provides a grand Colorado experience in a rich, beautiful, warm setting. We brought family together here to celebrate Thanksgiving and enjoyed the spacious and gorgeous architecture and just about everything we needed to enjoy hours of relaxation, games, comfort and just incredible beauty. We just couldn't believe how extraordinary this home was in scale and richness. The rooms are so warm and comfortable. The kitchen is well-stocked and accommodated our huge Thanksgiving feast. The wood burning stoves are not only beautiful, but absolutely efficient and we enjoyed the incredible views (inside and out) with the cozy warmth. There are nooks everywhere that just needed a book and cup of coffee. There is a wrap around deck that is just gorgeous and allows you to pick a sunny spot at really any point in the day. There is a sauna that just made the end of the day perfect. The area around the home is beautiful and we enjoyed peaceful walks, for as long as you'd like to take. Also, very important to us was bringing our dog and the owner was completely accommodating to him! There is a huge fenced area for safe roaming and she had dog bowls waiting just for him when we arrived. There were a couple of things that didn't work quite right, including the DVD player. In that particular case, we contacted the owner with this problem and she quickly had another player delivered so that we could have our movie binge, as we had planned. The television downstairs in the rec room area didn't work, but this allowed us to keep it off and enjoy more games together, so we found no real reason to complain. We've stayed in many VRBO rentals and this home just can't be beat in terms of it's unique, grand, log home beauty. We found ourselves staring around at the construction of the home just wondering how they did it. We made memories in a special place and will be back!"
