  • Great little apartment.

"I give the Carriage House a 5 star rating not because it's a 5 star accommodation but because it is exactly as the Owner describes it. It has a funky upstairs layout where you have to go through the master bedroom to get to the second bedroom and through that to get to the 2nd bathroom. No big deal - we just let our boys have the second bathroom and we used the one downstairs. And yes, the stairs are steep, nothing major, you just have to be careful. If your family has privacy issues this may not be the location for you. The boys later told me they were cold in the back bedroom (a big snow storm went through while we were there and the temp dropped to single digits). Patty had texted to ask if everything is ok and if the back room was warm enough - so that was the boys fault for not speaking up earlier. The beds are also regular singles so they were a bit short for my teenage boys who are both close to 6', but they were happy to each have their own bed and bedroom. The best part of this place is the location. We've stayed in 4 VRBO's in salida and this was definitely the best location. You are quite literally in the middle of downtown. We go to Salida most winters and next time we have just our family we will definitely look into rebooking this place."

  • cabin with a hot tub

"What more do you need? stunning views out the windows, 20 min to Monarch, 10 min to Great beer at elevations. The bed was super comfortable; cabin was warm, cozy and nicely decorated. Need to come back and read some of the books."

  • Cabin in the snow

"The cabin is well equipped, kitchen , bathroom and living room on first floor. Stairs up to bedroom are a bit steep. The bedroom has a very slanted ceiling and the bed position is such that moving around to the far side is a bit difficult ( watch your head ) The bed is not the most comfortable and a headboard would have been nice. We expected snow of course in the Rockies in winter. But we also thought the roads would have been plowed to allow us to be able to get out of the valley . With more than 6 inches of snow the road to and from the cabin is virtually closed ( up hill both ways to get out ) we had a 4x4 or would have been stuck . The drive was not plowed either both snow days. We actually left 2 nights earlier than scheduled due to the roads being so bad an out concern over probability of being snowed in. Of note the closest grocery is in Saldia about 15 miles away down the mountain, be sure to buy supplies (food) we did as there is nothing near by. Closest restaurant is about 5 miles down the mountain (the Lodge restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner) if you can get up the road . Cell phone coverage is very spotty, there was wifi at the cabin and a land line for emergency use ."

  • Perfect birthday retreat with friends!

"The house was spacious, welcoming, and conveniently located near downtown Salida to walk to food and shops! We appreciated a kitchen that was stocked with utensils to cook at home and the comfortable living spaces that were perfect for games and meals together!"
