  • Base camp

"The Willis retreat is the perfect base camp for exploring the area. We hiked many trails and visited the surronding towns of Alma, Fairplay and Beckenridge. Unseasonable weather brought rain, sleet, hail and snow to the surrounding peaks. Low temps in the 30's made the wood burning stove nice! We really appriciated the fact that we could use the DVD player, we rent properties all over and can never use the DVD player! I know I am digitally illiterate... The dart board was entertaining as well. Kona loved the yard."

  • Lovely location & well-appointed cabin

"We had a really lovely time staying at this mountain home! LOCATION: Near Divide, Colorado, it was 'in the middle' of all of the area activities we were wanting to do & we enjoyed returning each day to a quiet place in a serene setting & the ability to cook our own meals & pack our own picnics, thus saving a lot of money & time from restaurants! PROPERTY: This property was very clean & well maintained & organized! The cabin itself is very nicely laid out with 2 bedrooms (1 double/1 king), living, bath (shower/toilet/sink), and kitchen/dining on the lower floor. The upper floor has a large bedroom with a double & 2 twin beds in it & a little loft with love seat & bookshelf full of games. Not sure the Pikes Peak view is still quite so clear from the deck. FURNISHINGS: It was nice to see someone didn't just throw in their leftovers or head to Walmart to furnish this property! Although some of the bed linens & pillows could use replacing, there was a lovely supply of quilts, towels, dish towels, etc, all in good condition. The kitchen was well-appointed, with nice pots & utensils, although a medium sized skillet would've been nice & one of the large ones was very scratched up. There were no larger mixing bowls...only a small one. There were your basic salt & pepper, coffee filters, and plastic wrap, Al foil, etc left likely from others. We added wooden spoons because most utensils were plastic & not good for high heat cooking & a set of measuring cups, because what was there was incomplete. But there were a lot of things in the cabinets, like crock pots, hand mixer, blender, etc that some might find useful...although it's possible they're just taking up space! There wasn't a lot of cabinet space, though, to put your own food when you arrived...we rearranged to help with this a bit. It would be nice if all the dinnerware matched to make it easier to retrieve & store....and something with not such deep cereal bowls! Why we didn't rate it 5 stars: The condition/need for items mentioned above (linens needing replacement, some minor kitchen things) and the fact that the den area only has seating space for 4. The seals on the large windows that look from the den into the forest are broken, so much of the time there was condensate covering about 1/4 of the lower windows, obstructing the view. Even in this case, we would still recommend this property to others looking at this area & consider it ourselves should we return to this area."

  • Charming and comfortable, close-to-town home!

"We had a fantastic long-weekend stay at the House on the Corner! Spent hours sitting on the front porch watching the world go by. Loved the spacious dining room and living room areas for relaxing with family, and liked that one half of the family could be upstairs while the other could be tucked away in the downstairs bedroom/bath off the kitchen for folks who go to bed and rise at different times. The proximity to downtown is also perfect... easily walkable for folks of all ages. Ken and his family have thought of everything to make their home a comfortable stay for all. We will definitely be back!"

  • Perfect mountain getaway!

"My wife and I stayed 6 nights to celebrate our 2 year anniversary. We spent the week hiking and visiting surrounding towns during the day, then enjoying the peace and quiet of the property at night. The home itself is beautiful and the views are amazing! It has everything you need to feel comfortable and the owner Mike was very helpful and even reached out to make sure our visit was going well. This was our first time renting a vacation home and we very impressed at how smooth the process was. We would recommend this rental to anyone looking for a true mountain getaway."
