  • Lovely house in quiet surroundings

"The situation of the house was perfect, surrounded by fields and with lovely views and sunsets from the back porch. It was also very comfortable and quiet. There are a couple of reasons why I didn't rate it with 5 stars. There weren't enough cereal bowls for potentially 6 guests - only 4 cereal bowls and 4 mugs. It would take very little time and expense to equip the kitchen more extensively. Also the kettle which was really bad and corroded and needed replacing. The handle fell apart whilst pouring a cup of tea and nearly caused a scalding accident and a washer from the handle was discovered at the bottom of a cup and luckily wasn't drunk. There was only one bedside light in the downstairs bedroom and so we borrowed one from upstairs. We were very confused by the downstairs bed and the way it had been made up. The mattress was very soft and squashy and we discovered a couple of days later that the warm feather quilt (which surely should have been on top of us and not underneath) had been put on the mattress beneath the bottom sheet?!!! and on top of the bed was only a very thin blanket which wasn't nearly warm enough for the chilly nights. I'd love to know why. We took a quilt from one of the upstairs beds to use over the top of us to keep warm. We ate in The Stacked Kitchen in Sharon and enjoyed a very tasty and reasonably cheap meal. Ashley, the owner was very friendly and helpful and the service was good. The area around Sharon is beautiful."

  • Warm, cozy and a beautiful location!

"My mom, friend and I enjoyed a girls trip mid-October and it was the best trip I have ever been on! Staying in your beautiful home added to the small town, charming experience! It is in a wonderful location, not far from other towns but just far enough that you feel like you're in your own little world. We felt very safe, cozy and really enjoyed our stay! We would definitely stay here again!"

  • Amazing house in the perfect location! Views that never end!

"We traveled far and wide from across the globe for a wedding in peak leaf season. The house and location couldn't have been any better! For six adults we couldn't ask for a better house in terms of rest and relaxation! We were pleasantly surprised when the owner called us the first evening, just to check in and see if we needed anything else. He's been great to work with! The kitchen is well appointed with everything a chef could need. Just bring a deck of cards, your own food & drink, and toiletries, and you're good to go! Groceries: We'd shopped at Costco in Hartford, but later realized that almost everything we could have wanted was available at the local grocer just down the road. While a little more expensive than shopping in a major city, when you figure the cost of time and gas, the local market is a bargain. They even have a sushi chef making a fresh selection daily! You'll likely run into one of the many down to earth celebs that live in Sharon. The girls walked down to the local salon for mani-pedis ($40), and raved about the service and prices. If you're lucky, you'll get to see tons of wildlife on and around the property. We were greeted numerous times by two families of deer, rabbits, and countless birds and owls. The walk to the beach was beautiful! Be sure to pay attention to the beautifully hand carved gates at twin oaks! You can't see the gates from the house, but you can see the oaks! Being out in rural CT, the cell service is limited. If you have a wi-fi enabled phone you'll be fine since the house, and most of the neighbors have wi-fi. If you don't, you may want to add Google Voice or another wi-fi phone service to your phone before heading out into rural America. Be sure you check out the local towns, parks, and hikes! They are all stunning! Kent: If you head to Kent, be sure and check out Kent Coffee (by the tracks), if for no other reason than to drool over their chocolates! The coffee shop on the other end of town may get more advertising, but don't fall for it, you'll only find tourists and bad coffee. Weekdays are the best. Kent Falls: go on a weekday! The walk to the top is just that, an easy walk! While a WC or stroller may not make it all the way to the top (OK, they won't), there is still plenty for them to see. Lime Rock: Go on a weekday, late afternoon. Since they were done with their official activity for the day they let us in for free and "explore", even letting us drive on the track!"
