  • Another Perfect Vacation at Capt'n Rick's!!

"This is the second summer that we have booked The Captain's Cottage. Everything about this home is fantastic for a relaxing vacation. It's much more preferable than Cape Cod or Rhode Island....much less crowded and far more relaxed. Very close to attractions in Mystic: the aquarium, seaport and boat/fishing excursions. The Ct River area also has lots to offer. Restaurants are close by and serve terrific food. But, the reason we keep coming back is that this is the perfect vacation house for a large group of people of varying ages. The beach is absolutely beautiful. It is extremely well-groomed. It is not crowded. The beach is very delightful for the youngest vacationers and their parents. Gentle water to wade/in and a small rock wall to explore. Older kids will enjoy swimming to the dock. Importantly, the beach is only steps away from the house. The house is extremely spacious. It's nice to have space to be alone on vacation. The front porch has lots of room for entertaining. My brothers and sisters as well as their kids and my parents always make it down here for a day or two. The house has been upgraded nicely since our last stay in 2014. New appliances, new grill and new TVs. Lots of ocean air and sunshine! When I asked my kids and my sister's family where they wanted to go for vacation this year, everyone answered: "Captain Ricks!!" I love it here! I'm seriously thinking of retiring in the area. In the meantime, we'll be vacationing at the most comfortable house on the CT shoreline as often as we can. Thank you, Rick, for your great hospitality as well as another great vacation."

  • Wonderful gem!

"We stayed at this cottage for bringing our daughter to college and then for some vacation time. It was seriously the most well-appointed kitchen of the many, many kitchens that we have rented! The outdoor shower was fantastic for cleaning up after a day at the beach, and we ended up using it on non-beach days too, it was so nice. The backyard felt very private, although we didn't spend much time there. The front porch was a great place to read in the evenings (and the wi-fi, cable, board games, and puzzles gave the older kids something to do in the evenings as well). There were three beaches within walking distance. The closest one was two blocks away but was a bit rocky during low tide for preference of my youngest. The largest one was close to Rocky Neck State Park and was great for playing on the sand bar and for hunting crabs and shells during low tide. We appreciated the beach gear, since we had flown in and obviously couldn't bring our chairs etc. We took one day trip to Mystic and one to New London; otherwise, we were at the beach! Peter and Pat were easy to work with and very accommodating, and having a next door contact for emergencies or quick questions was great as well. We would certainly love to stay with them next time we are in the area!"

  • Quiet, Cozy & Peaceful

"As we started down hill towards Little Stannard Beach I knew immediately we were in for something spectacular! My husband grew up along the Clinton CT shoreline in a 2 story house and this cottage reminded him of home. From the moment you pulled into the driveway, the cottage had a welcoming feel to it...calling you right inside to enjoy and relax. The outside yard area had the same feel with the beautiful flowers in the front filled with bee and butterfly activity. The backyard was green and lush and alive with bird and squirrel activity. The walk to the beach was short and very convenient. The scene from the beach forces you to leave your cares behind and enjoy a little slice of heaven. The cottage had everything we needed for our stay. The place was super clean, beds comfortable and well stocked kitchen. Kiki was a wonderful host...taking on the same qualities of the cottage...warm and welcoming. We also enjoyed meeting her dog Cosby! My only regret is that we didn't have enough time there. I left a little piece of my heart at this cottage...so I know for sure I'll return some day to this sweet cottage on Little Stannard Beach."
