  • Another Perfect Vacation at Capt'n Rick's!!

"This is the second summer that we have booked The Captain's Cottage. Everything about this home is fantastic for a relaxing vacation. It's much more preferable than Cape Cod or Rhode Island....much less crowded and far more relaxed. Very close to attractions in Mystic: the aquarium, seaport and boat/fishing excursions. The Ct River area also has lots to offer. Restaurants are close by and serve terrific food. But, the reason we keep coming back is that this is the perfect vacation house for a large group of people of varying ages. The beach is absolutely beautiful. It is extremely well-groomed. It is not crowded. The beach is very delightful for the youngest vacationers and their parents. Gentle water to wade/in and a small rock wall to explore. Older kids will enjoy swimming to the dock. Importantly, the beach is only steps away from the house. The house is extremely spacious. It's nice to have space to be alone on vacation. The front porch has lots of room for entertaining. My brothers and sisters as well as their kids and my parents always make it down here for a day or two. The house has been upgraded nicely since our last stay in 2014. New appliances, new grill and new TVs. Lots of ocean air and sunshine! When I asked my kids and my sister's family where they wanted to go for vacation this year, everyone answered: "Captain Ricks!!" I love it here! I'm seriously thinking of retiring in the area. In the meantime, we'll be vacationing at the most comfortable house on the CT shoreline as often as we can. Thank you, Rick, for your great hospitality as well as another great vacation."

  • The cottage is cute and inviting. The yard is awesome, the view and proximity to the lake can't be

"This is our second year here and I can see it becoming a tradition. My sister and I were able to have our adults kids and spouses spend a day or two with us . It was the best time. We all enjoyed the lake ,in fact my 2 year old granddaughter learned to swim there. This cottage is a great place for family fun , catching up with each other and making new memories. I will definitely go back."

  • Exceptional home and hospitality

"The owner has a beautiful beach property -- we did not want to leave. It was meticulous (gorgeous bedrooms and hardwood throughout) and stocked with amenities. We had access to the charcoal grill and indoor/outdoor games for our two boys. We were also surprised as it appears to be the owner's personal decor (versus just rental decor). We felt like we were in our home and thus treated it as such. For future Yale reunions I look forward to staying at this summer cottage!"

  • A great experience had by all

"My family and I gathered in the area for a handful of days around a recent wedding and had the pleasure of spending our time as guests in Jennifer’s home. Our initial walk-through upon check-in left us excited that we had made the right decision, after a prior stay at another rental house on another service left us disappointed and had us questioning the benefit of a home rental over the standard hotel option when traveling as a group. Thankfully we were in no way disappointed with our choice. It's immediately apparent that the house is full of character and the large open layout on the first floor offered plenty of space for communal gatherings which was a definite plus. The kitchen was fully outfitted, with only a trip to the grocery store required to make it live-in ready. Another nice touch was the abundant labeling of drawers, cabinets, closets and light switches that made it easy to settle right in and feel less like a stranger in someone else’s home. The house featured many amenities that did not go unappreciated, including table games, board games, wifi, a grill, large porch and several watercraft, among other things. The house is also located on a quiet street which set the scene nicely to allow one to take in the calming views out over the sound from the comfort of the swinging bench in the back of the house. The covered porch also provided ample seating for the times when the group wanted to relocate the gathering outside. With plenty of entertainment to go around, we only wish we had more time to take advantage of all the home had to offer. The lack of A/C in the bedrooms presented somewhat of a challenge for those among us who were particularly temperature sensitive in trying to sleep comfortably on a couple of the hotter nights during our stay over the summer, although the presence of ceiling fans in each bedroom and the water's cooling effect did make it a little more manageable. There is an A/C unit in one of the open rooms on the 1st floor. Otherwise the sleeping accommodations met our needs. Jennifer also kindly assisted in reuniting one of us with an item that had been left behind in the house after checkout, which exemplified her desire to ensure that we had a wonderful stay at her home and underscored her willingness to accommodate her guests wherever possible. On the whole, the house, and Jennifer’s hospitality, made for a great time had by all, and we would certainly recommend a stay to others."
