"Our family loves the beach and we will typically try to get in a couple of long weekends and one full week at the beach every summer. This year, instead of paying separately for a few different trips, we decided to rent Heather and Eric’s wonderful beach home for the entire month of July. Even though I knew we could not spend the entire month there (as much as I would have liked to!) I knew we would be able to look forward to every weekend and then take my one week’s vacation on the last week of the month. As a bonus, we would be able to bring along our four legged members of the family, Polly and Max. Living only an hour and a half away (in Central Florida) this arrangement worked out fantastic.
We had never actually stayed in Ormond by the Sea and when we arrived to Heather and Eric’s cute beach bungalow that first night, we were so pleased! The house is a perfect beach retreat, very comfortable, extremely well kept, and we immediately felt right at home. One of the very best things about this particular beach home is its wonderful, tropical, shaded back yard. (I did not see any other home with a backyard as nice!) Not only the atmosphere of the tropical foliage, but the all the great shade it provides, made it an amazing place to relax no matter what the time of day, even in the afternoon heat. And the breezes in the evening were amazing. Our furry friends thought so too! There are two perfect palm trees to string up a portable hammock (definitely bring one along – Amazon.com for about 20 bucks!) and the outdoor patio came to life with the tiki torches we bought.
The other great thing about this location is that although Ormond is a small beach town, there is so much to do besides the beach. A short drive takes you to Ponce Inlet or St. Augustine, but the town itself is filled with parks and historical sites. There is dock at the end of the street for fishing or kayaking, or you could take a short drive to Tomoka State Park or the amazing pier under the Granada bridge. Another plus is that there are so many conveniences just a short walk away – practically anything you need you can pick up at Dollar General at the end of the road, grab a slice of Pizza from Lenny’s around the corner or a Mahi taco from Crabby Chris’, wax for your surfboard at the surfshop, or a cold beer from the Beachside Brew Pub!
I simply cannot say enough about how we loved this location and especially Heather and Eric’s fantastic beach home. I cannot wait to return!"
