  • Quiet, serene, and as engaging as you want

"There are different perspectives on Florida. Most people tend to think of the beaches and waving palm trees or Key West funky, but there is another side of Florida. There is the other Florida, most of our annual tourist invasion drives or flies right passed on the rush to the beaches. We call it "old Florida." This is the Florida of cypress trees, languid rivers, otters, alligators, dear, and black bear. If you want to get away from the rushing torrent of day-to-day life, to slow down and experience a genuine taste of old Florida, consider booking this property for a stay. You will know that you are getting away from that "other life," when you drive off the main road and turn down the chalky, hard pan country lane taking you further back, away from towns and traffic. The cottage is near the end of a lane on a spit of land in a loop of the Withlacoochee River. You will have the urge to run right through the house to the back to drink in the beautiful, unbelievable tableaux of the Withlacoochee flowing past. The other side of the river is a wildlife preserve. There is a small fishing dock on the beautiful well-maintained waterfront. You didn't bring fishing gear, that's okay the owner has several rods and reels to chose from. Do you just want to sit and rest? Just pull up a chair and watch nature flow by on the river. Want to get even closer to nature? The owner has a tandem kayak, a single fishing kayak, and a nice canoe. We explored the rive by water, paddling both up and down the river. Suggestion, if you are going for a long paddle, go up-river as far as you want. That way when you turn around the river will do most of the work bringing you back to the cottage. Dunnellon is surrounded by various nature parks and preserves, with hiking trails and other rivers to explore. I did an approximately 18 mile hike one day. The cottage is clean and well arranged. The kitchen is well equipped, with plenty of room for cooking. There are two bedrooms (each with its own bath). One has a double bed and the other has two singles. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. On Christmas day he brought us new propane tanks for the barbeque. If getting closer to the true nature of Florida is what you want, then this is the place to go. It is just about 1.5 hours from Tampa International Airport."

  • Loved this place!

"This home is so pleasant! My grandchildren, children and I enjoyed the pool and the dock where one of my grandsons caught his first fish!!! The house was roomy and made you feel "at home". I would definitely like to revisit this home. The owner was very helpful when needed."

  • Wonderful time

"This beautiful house is located in an area that has much to offer. My wife and I visited Clearwater Beach, Tarpon Springs, and had a great time tubing on the Rainbow River. The highlight of our trip was definitely when we went to Crystal River and swam with the Manatees! There are also many wonderful dining options and shops that are close by. Another nice touch – the owners have gathered many informative brochures which point you to all the “not to miss” spots. The house itself is nestled in a quiet neighborhood. There is space enough for one or more families to share. Four large bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a family room, beautiful kitchen, dining room and a screened in Florida room which overlooks the very private built in pool! We loved starting our days lounging in the Florida room, having our coffee and listening to the birds. To sum it up, we didn't want to leave! We are hoping to scheduling another week in the spring – this time we are bringing the kids."

  • Great house and location

"This immaculate house is close to everything. 1/2 mile away you can launch the kayaks for $5 and you can rent more, kayaks, boats, tours etc at Plantation. The one bedroom has 2 double beds that were very comfortable along with a sleeper sofa that we didn't use. The other bedroom. Has a king size bed that was comfortable. Lots of cupboard space. Towels etc were plentiful. Kitchen was well stocked not only with utensils but some spices etc. The bathrooms are spacious supplied with soap and toilet paper. The open floor plan fo kitchen, living room and dining room. We didn't have 10 people but if we had seating would have been an issue. Living room could use some more comfortable furniture. Only has seating for 6. Dining room table seats 6 plus a small table In adjoining enclosed porch has table and 3 chairs. Kayaks were great along with life preservers. Easy access to bikes and kayaks in garage. New washer and dryer were much appreciated. Owners were very responsive to any questions. Quiet neighborhood."
