  • Lovely getaway

"We are Floridians but wanted to get closer to nature. Maryann's place was perfect...right on the riverfront and scenic. She was in close touch to make sure everything went as planned. The house was sparkling clean and comfy. We really enjoyed kayaking right off the backyard dock. We would definitely come back!"

  • Great place for a family to hang out and relax with kayaks and free wildlife experiences

"Our first impression was it was one of the nicer houses in the area. The neighborhood nor the surrounding areas are touristy at all. You're in a house in a neighborhood. The house is elevated with a full bathroom, storage and parking underneath. House is very welcoming and basic. Nothing too fancy - just right. Huge kitchen, great dining area overlooking the water. LRoom also looks out to deck and dock. Decks goes around 2 sides of the house; you can easily spot manatee from inside because they look like brown blobs in the water. We'd yell "manatee!!" and then all run down to the dock which they actually nudge under to eat the greens underwater. Deck has a big outdoor dining table and a 2 person table. There's a fire pit in the small grassed backyard. Grill requires charcoal - very fun. There were 2 half bags of matchlight downstairs and we used 1 so wait to see what's there before bringing charcoal. Then leave your extra for the next person. Not very many houses have such a nice boat ramp and 2 docks. We kayaked everyday. We started out with a parent and kid in each of 2, two-man kayaks but by midweek the kids were using the singles. My favorite is the red single but it's very tippy. There is a sandbar close by where the neighborhood canals meet the Weeki Wachee river. Great place to get out and sit in the water. The river is beautiful to kayak; turtles, hawk, raccoon, sea birds, manatee - to the left is wilder and fairytale beautiful but the current is against you. On the way back you just stop paddling and let the current turn you around and push you back to the sandbar. Twice we paddled right up to a mom and about 4 foot baby manatee -nursing. They don't seem to mind. Back at the dock, we used a huge intertube tied to the dock to play in the water. Huge white heron come racing down the canal at eye level. Lots of wildlife, blue crab, turtles and tortoise, vulchers, even some bats. Beach was within 10 min. $5 to get in but you can leave and come back to see the sunset. Very shallow, no waves, very clear. Pine Island beach reminded me of a beach in the Fla. Keys. Winn Dixie less than 10 mi and Publixs. Normal neighborhood stuff - restaurants, drug stores but nothing touristy at all. Produce and fish sold at veggie stand nearby on Sat morn only. Hernando Beach has a veg stand next to Bayside Fish market and they'll cook it too. Great vacation!"

  • Awesome experience

"One of our favorite things to do was sit on the dock and watch fish jump and ducks swim by. We went canoeing and saw manatees. We also saw an alligator. The kitchen had all the right tools for our stay. The movies there kept us busy at night. The restaurants around are all great. there were many fun activities around the house."

  • Michigan sisters and spouses

"The four of us rented this beautiful home the winters of 2015 and 2016. The home was spacious, comfortable, fully-equipped with four TVs, books, jigsaw puzzles, bicycles, a golf cart, beach chairs, and a most pleasant kitchen stocked with everything we needed. The Wellington Community was convenient to The Y, restaurants, grocery stores, drug stores, and golf courses, and far away from the maddening tourist traffic. The neighborhood was very quiet and the neighbors were friendly. The clubhouse had many daytime and nighttime activities, a large outdoor pool, and a terrific restaurant. The owners, Bill & Candi, are the most wonderful people. They are outgoing and friendly, love to laugh, and they were most accommodating in every respect. The relationship we had was more family-like than a rental arrangement. If there were anything we needed, it only took a phone call or email to satisfy the need. If our future snowbird plans include west-central Florida again, we'll want to stay at Bill & Candi's place again. God bless them."
