5-star stay in paradise "Paradise place"
"We (family of 6, 4 children 15-16-17-19) had a great time at Jim and Theresa's place. The property was clean and I could not mention any item that we possibly could need that was not there. And then there's Jim's shed, loaded with snorkeling gear, fishing rods, filled fridge, tools, bicycles, toys and inflatables, stuff for the kayaks, canoes, BBQ etc...
The possibilities of fishing, kayaking, boating etc. have already been mentioned before in multiple reviews. Just as the abundance of wildlife around the house and in the canal. I won't repeat that - but all of it is true. Highlight was the arrival of 6 (!) manatees at the same time!
Comment from my wife is that we finally had a house that had sufficient frying pans of considerable size to accommodate a family of 6...
But most important thing: we felt at home the moment we entered the property.
Another minor thing that was really appreciated: since we're from The Netherlands Jim did not come up with a personal cheque for the deposit, but returned it in cash on our last day.
The one thing that was annoying was the arrival of no-see-ums and mosquitoes at around 7 PM. And since our party contains 2 that have an allergy for insect bites we spent the late evenings inside. So bring enough repellent!
Thanks for a wonderful stay Jim and Theresa - we might see each other again!

"My family vacationed here for a week prior to dropping my son, husband and friend at Boy Scout Sea Base High Adventure. We were with 4 teenage boys (and two grandparents) looking for something with amenities that would keep these active scouts busy. We were drawn to the kayaks and waterfront location with close proximity to good snorkeling. The outside of the house totally delivers. It is exactly as the pictures show. The tiki equipped with hammock and hammock chairs was terrific but we spent most of the time on the beach, enjoying the sea breeze and fishing from the bulkhead. There is no pier or dock but if you do not have a boat, there is plenty of room to fish. You will need a FL license if you are over 16. Check with your local bait shop for regulations and bait recommendations (we loved Brenda across the street at Capt Pete's who is a wealth of knowledge!) A few things to note about the property: I would not consider this a 3 bedroom. Yes it does have the beds that it states however the lower level is one large open room that has 2 beds in what is largely a family room with large sectional and television. It is more of a studio. We had planned on my parents staying here but it did not give them any privacy from the teenagers and there is no inside staircase that leads to the upstairs. One must go outside and use the front stairs or the spiral staircase out back. Not a problem when the weather was nice but there were several severe thunderstorms throughout the week which I understand is a regular occurance in the summer. Also, the air condition is not adjustable. It is set to 81 degrees (which was hot and not very comfortable for my mom who suffers from asthma) during the day and appears to come on full blast late in the evening, leaving everyone searching for blankets in the middle of the night and early morning. Lastly, do not expect anyone to sleep in the terraced area during the warm weather months. The owners ask that you keep the sliding doors closed during the day and open them after 8 pm. This room was unbearably hot and two of the boys were forced to sleep on loveseats and sofas in the cooler living room. There is no ice maker which is a bummer when frozen drinks are on the bar menu. It is vacation after all! If you plan on snorkeling in the sound, make sure you stop and pick up a dive flag at any local grocery store, Walgreens or dive shop."

"So HAPPY this house became available. I could not have found a more perfect spot to spend the month of April for my daughters' wedding.
I LOVED the beach, the sunsets at the marina, the pina coladas at Snappers, bike riding EVERYWHERE, the outdoor shower, view from the house on rainy days, the view from master bedroom, friendly neighbors and other renters I met and spent time with, QUIET neighborhood. I really did not want to leave!!
The only negative I have is the bed pillows. I travel with my own and the ones in the master were fine but the kids complained about the ones in the other bedrooms.
Julie was very nice to rent from. She text me to make sure I had arrived and warned me about speeding. Everything was clean and stocked really well. Hopefully I will be able to go back in the near future."

"Heading for our long weekend away we were a little nervous considering the serious drop in positive reviews. We have stayed in the keys many times. This trip was two couples(early 50's) enjoying a long holiday weekend. Dividing the cost between the two couples meant we paid less than a hotel room and had the plus of a full kitchen and laundry facilities and room to spread out. The a/c was plenty cold. The hot water was plenty hot. The cable tv was fine. The beds were comfy. We didn't encounter any issues with the house at all. The house was cleaned when we arrived, in fact the cleaners came back and asked if we wanted them to fold the laundry they had left in the dryer. Yes the house needs a deep cleaning like the berber carpeting is deeply stained. However, we go to the keys with kayaks in tow and after a day on the water, we come dragging into a house with sand and muck and wet, so we wouldn't like to stay in a place that we felt like we had to be totally tidy in. We also were able to bring our dog along, another plus. We couldn't have sat outside in July as we would have just been eaten alive by the mosquitos, but we were able to use the grill one night and it was fine. The dock is showing signs of aging, but the hole is intentionally part of the dock, to allow for mangroves growing there. We never felt unsafe walking on it. Yes the boat is old, but we weren't bothered by it. We go to the Keys to mostly kick back, relax, kayak, and fish. I can see how if you were going to stay at the house as a major part of your time there, that you could be disappointed, but clean and functional works fine for us as long as we aren't paying a premium price. The salt air is so hard on property in the keys, to keep a place in top shape requires expensive regular maintenance that probably would eat up most profit. So, I'm sure it's a balancing act for an owner to figure out what to invest in and what to let go. Also we did receive our security deposit back in the time stated. Would we stay there again? Yep."
