Recent Little Torch Key reviews

  • Home away from home

"My husband and I spent a week in Vicki and Ray's lostinparadise rental on Ramrod Key. It was our very first experience with and will definitely be the first of many thanks to them and their hospitality. Over a decade ago my husband and I lived on nearby Little Torch Key and we wanted to rent a place near where we lived, worked and played to celebrate his 50th birthday. We spent a couple weeks reading about different properties and chose this one based on amenities, location and past reviews. This rental lived up to and exceeded our expectations. The screened in porch is phenomenal. We spent mornings watching the sunrise out there and an occasional afternoon, as well as one sunset. We set up the hammocks and took the kayaks out twice with subs from nearby Murray's Market. Just as fun and delicious as we remembered. We met up with many of our friends that I've on neighboring islands and made 3 trips to Key West. And when my brother-in-law came to visit from Miami we had plenty of space for him to stay one night. We enjoyed having a full kitchen for when we were too full to eat out another meal and for when we had a friend and her two young children join us for dinner one night. We ordered takeout from Boondocks with kid friendly meals and just enjoyed relaxing with friends. We had planned to use the bikes, but just never had enough time to get on them. The location is perfect for us. We even got to Bahia Honda State Park to walk the beach where we got married, so convenient to Ramrod. We visited the Big Pine Key Flea Market (what we used to refer to as our trip to the "mall" when we lived here) and a new Farmer's Market at the Catholic Church on Big Pine Key. We got to see plenty of Key Deer and always visit Out of the Blue gift shop there on Big Pine as well. The accommodations were immaculate and comfortable. So happy to have the hair dryer so I did not have to pack one, a closet full of beach towels and having the laundry machine and dryer on the screened porch just made days out on the water even more convenient. It definitely felt like a home away from home for us and we did not want to leave. We definitely plan to stay here again on future visits. Thanks Vicki and Ray for a much needed week in paradise. You all made it extra special with your attention to detail with the furnishings, pictures hung on the wall and all the great touches. We loved having the key hooks on the wall so we always knew where our rental car"

  • For us, this place worked out great!

"The location of this house was our favorite part, it is right across the channel from Big Pine Key, which happens to be our favorite, with all the key deer roaming around. It is less than a half hour from Key West, and about 15 minutes from Bahia Honda State Park. We loved the water front property, it was plenty big enough for us to pull our 42 foot 5th wheel in, completely set it up, and also park two large pick up trucks. The use of the kayaks was very nice, even if the wind didn't cooperate most of our stay, and the pool was a refreshing treat. When we arrived there was only one kayak, when the listing stated two, I sent Donald a text, and he had someone bring us another the same day. The house itself is an older house, and a bit dated, but it worked out well. It was clean when we arrived, and felt comfortable. The two upstairs bedrooms are small, as the listing states they are. The master down stairs is plenty big, and has a connecting bathroom. The living room area was big, comfortable, and had a nice view of the water. The down stairs (efficiency) is nice to have for the extra fridge, and a down stairs bathroom, but I wouldn't feel comfortable letting anyone sleep down there. Donald did make sure to tell me that it is not as nice as the rest of the house, and he was right. My husband did get bit by a scorpion while walking through there one evening to use the bathroom. That was a little scary, and very painful, but after some quick research we learned that there are no deadly scorpions in FL, and by the next day there was no sign of the bite on his foot. The decks are dated, and kind of sketchy in places. We avoided the top deck because of this, but had lots of fun on the ground level. The neighborhood was quiet, and laid back. In my honest opinion the price is a bit high for this home, but since we could fit our 5th wheel in the lot (we travel full time in it for work so it's always with us), the location, the fact that they are pet friendly, and being right on the water was so nice, we would rent it again. Donald and his wife were very easy to work with, friendly, and were always quick with their responses whenever I contacted them. We thank you for sharing your home with us, Donald, all in all, we enjoyed spending the holidays there, and hated to leave the beautiful Florida Keys! Wishing you & yours all the best in 2016!"

  • Perfect Place

"I struggle to find adjectives to describe this beautiful place for our family. "Perfect" doesn't begin to describe it. There was plenty of room with the open concept design and loved the split bedrooms. The two sinks in the kitchen was much appreciated with several adults preparing the lobsters from our dives along with other meals. Watching the sun rise in the master bedroom with sitting area was spectacular. The home itself was private being surrounded by mangroves and other foliage. Every morning we were greeted by the local iguanas around the pool who just wanted to say "good morning" and off they went. The convenient outside shower was used often to rinse dive gear and salt water from self and other toys. Location is very convenient to Key West (approx. 30 minutes) and within walking distance to Kiki's Grill. Owner was very accommodating in answering all my questions prior to arrival and even left extra floats for us to use. I told my husband we were going to handcuff our selves to the pool railing because we didn't want to leave. Definitely one of our all time vacations."

  • Paradise Seeker

"i would wholeheartedly recommend this property, we found the house and property better than the description. The house was very clean as we arrived and the owners followed up right after our arrival to assure our satisfaction. The house is minutes from the ocean on a clear canal containing a wealth of sea life. We saw parrotfish snappers small sharks and a manatee. The neighborhood is quiet and friendly. Enjoy!"
