  • MORE THAN A VACATION

"MORE THAN A VACATION We anticipated a relaxing and enjoyable get-a-way at Conch Cottage but we received so much more. This small tropical fishing island took us out of reality. As we pulled in the drive, we were captivated by a beautiful and quite unique tree. The cottage was inviting, cozy and charming with warm wood throughout. It was spotless and offered all the amenities you might need, from kitchenware, coffee maker, wifi, movies & books to beach towels and first-aid supplies. The master bed was exceptionally comfortable - we had the best sleep ever! The large bathroom was very accommodating with double vanities and mirrors. The view of the water from the kitchen island was amazing as we prepared our fresh fish for a romantic dinner out on the porch - with subtle lighting strung across the mature palm trees. No need for a schedule, we let nature and the beauty of the island plan our days. The clear gulf water allowed us to enjoy the colorful fish and a huge, friendly turtle. The large dock with a handy shower was an extension of the cottage where we spent much of our time fishing, feeding the birds, relaxing with a book & a refreshing drink or taking our kayaks out on the peaceful waters, always making sure we were back on the dock for the breathtaking sunsets. Later in the evening, star gazing was a must as we sat and watched the spectacular display in the heavens. The bicycles allowed us to get our daily exercise on the "old bridge" across US1 which is now used for fishing, walking and biking. A roundtrip walk on the bridge is nearly five miles! The quaint store on the island came in handy for a breakfast sandwich, getting fishing bait and buying our daily fix of their delicious key lime pie. Another cool feature on the island was getting fresh fish & lobster from the fishermen as they arrived back from a day at sea. Restaurants and other activities were close by and a day trip to Key West was perfect. If you want more than a vacation, spend a week or two at Conch Cottage. It will be an experience hard to forget. We'll certainly be back."

  • Sweet slice of paradise

"Me and my girlfriend chose this property for my birthday weekend getaway, and were very pleased with our decision. Upon initial inspection we found the place to be very clean and tidy. The bedroom had a very big comfortable bed with an A/C unit that had no trouble keeping us cool day and night. The kitchen came fully stocked with all necessary utensils and appliances to cook and prepare our food. The stove is a gas stove/oven which I wasnt the biggest fan of, but served us well for the nights that we decided to cook. The living room area had a dvd player and cable TV which we watched for maybe a grand total of 20 minutes for our entire stay... because hey you're in the Florida Keys! The futon wasn't the most comfortable thing i've ever sat on, but was adequate considering we didn't plan on sitting for very long periods of time anyway. Now for the outside... the deck was very spacious with a dock that extends a few good yards out into the Gulf, the view from the dock was nothing short of amazing with incredible water clarity. We didn't get to do any snorkeling since we had a pretty good chop from constant 15-20mph winds. I did manage to catch my first bonefish which was the highlight of my entire weekend as i'm an avid fisherman. I also managed to bring in a few small mangrove snapper although the conditions were not the most ideal for fishing. Attached to the main deck is a very sturdy spiral staircase that leads you to yet another deck which is situated on the roof. The view is completely breathtaking as you can see all the color changes in the water from the sandbars, seagrass, and reefs. If you're a stargazer then you'll love it even more since there is very little light pollution in the Keys, we even stayed up to see the core of the Milky Way rise to the East, all viewable from the rooftop deck. Our neighbors were extremely nice with great conversation yet very mindful of our privacy as we were of theirs. Martha and Denise were also a pleasure to work with and were very responsive throughout. I'm giving this property 5 stars because of overall value and because you get more than you pay for. If you plan on having these amenities along with this view anywhere else in the Keys, then be prepared to fork out a couple of more bank rolls. Yes, the inside could use a few touches here and there, but for those of us not keeping up with the Kardashians or visiting from the Hamptons, this is a very sweet slice of paradise."

  • Our second visit with more to come

"Spent three weeks at Conch Key Villas in March of last year and enjoyed our stay and the middle keys so much that we returned for two weeks this season. Would have stayed longer but the secret is out. Stewart and Katie are great hosts and lots of fun at cocktail hour. The view is beautiful. If we were any closer to the water, we'd be wet. We noted several improvements to the property since our last stay including new air conditioning. Our stay was comfortable, quiet and peaceful. We'll be back next March!"

  • Amazing location - Amazing hospitality! Great Value!

"My husband and I have stayed on Conch Key before but this was our first time at Sunset Villas. First let me say that it is aptly named -- There's probably no place in the keys more beautiful for viewing the sunset. The huge deck area, which is just outside your door, is perfectly situated for watching the sunset every evening, and the Wiatt's have provided many seating arrangements for you -- waterside, hammock, crow's nest, or simply looking out your door. So lovely. The tandem kayak is very stable and an enjoyable way to explore the area - we found a large lobster colony along the highway in the rocks below - they were so cute! And Katrina gave us plenty of info to keep us out of trouble on the water. The bikes were also fun, as you have a little store a couple of blocks away - just ride the bike over to pick up what you need. We also rode the bikes north across the pedestrian bridge toward Layton -- the crabs all along the Overseas Highway Trail were so fun to watch. We only ate out 2 times -- the day we arrived and the night before we left because we caught so many fish right off the dock at Sunset Villas that we were able to have fresh fish every day while we were there. On Wednesday, we went out fishing with Captain Dan and had an awesome time! He recommended that we eat at Habanos in Islamorada and it did not disappoint! (they'll also cook your catch for you). the rest of our time was spent snorkeling right around the sea wall at Sunset Villas and also at Bahia Honda State Park - well worth the $$ and the drive down to explore. The swimming area may seem a little crowded but it doesn't scare the fish away. You'll still have a great snorkeling experience there. just one last thing -- we stayed in the Captain's quarter (1 br) -- the apartment was spotless, with 2 entry doors which both have a table and chairs right out the door and water views on both sides. The bed was very comfortable, the laundry is available 5 steps out your door. The kitchen had most everything you'd need for preparing your meals there, including a steamer basket(!) and a big pot for cooking lobsters. There is no more beautiful and reasonably priced vacation rental in the Keys! Katrina and Bill provide many things you need to enjoy your outings without having to buy extra stuff while you're there, like coolers and water toys. They also have fishing poles -- just bring your reels."
