  • This property worked perfectly for our family vacation.

"With an age range of 9-70, I was nervous about everybody having a good time. It worked out great though. We were only a short drive from Dunnellon, where we were able to do a Christmas Eve canoe trip on the pristine Rainbow River. A short drive the opposite direction puts you at the gulf where you can see the same river that is behind the house (Withlacoochee) spill into gulf. There were plenty of good dining options nearby as we visited the monkey bar in Homosassa and a seaty little bar on the other side of Lake Rousseau called the Loft (best bar tacos I've ever had and the Busch beer was the same temperature they keep them back home). The Homosassa state park was perfect for my mom. She got to see the kids having a great time without having to do much walking, Lou the Hippo is a must see along with this being the only place nearby where you are guaranteed to see Manatee without any effort. My brother spent most of his time fishing from the dock. It took him most of the week to figure out what baits to use and the effect of the tide on the fish bite even though we were on a river right by the dam the water fluctuates around 5 ladder rings from high to low tide. I only have a couple of suggestions that would have benefited our vacation. Provide a second key or alternative entry as coordinating with groups going in different directions was difficult to decide who should take key as the second group for reasons beyond my understanding could not figure out the lockbox hanging on the door knob. Since the internal entrance to the hot tub is through the room with two beds where the kids were sleeping we had to walk around the garage to not disturb them. This was a very dark walk if you didn't have your cell, a light over by the trash would have been helpful. The dock was also pitch dark and could benefit from some minimal lighting. These were minor inconveniences that didn't stop everybody from having a wonderful time. I definitely recommend staying here to anybody."

  • Home away from home. Loved it!

"What a wonderful stay we had with Family of 9. More then enough room for everyone. You walk in and feel at home right away, decor was awesome and made it all the more comfortable and homey. Quiet and relaxing with one of the best views setting on the large deck. House was very clean with plenty of towels and bedding. Kitchen had everything you would need. The teenage boys loved "the Cave". Would not hesitate to stay again, hopefully next year during scallop season. Thank you Carolyn for letting us enjoy your beautiful home."

  • Tell your friends!

"Phenomenal resort! From the beginning I had a good feeling about this place as I thought the reference to Milton's literary classic was very clever. The experience was far better than I could have even hoped for, as for the price of a decent hotel room in some cities you basically get your own private island resort! Words cannot describe and even picture don't do this sanctuary justice. Do yourself a favor and give it a try. I can guarantee you will be telling all your friends and coming back to stay again!"

  • The H2O Island Getaway is a fun, memorable and recommended option for Homosassa

"The H20 Getaway exceeded our expectations! We normally stay at another hotel on the river in Homosassa and decided to try something new this year. We had 6 adults and there was plenty of room. The kitchen was great for fitting everyone for breakfast and dinner. There were a lot of nice, unexpected conveniences we found upon arrival like fun straws, extra toiletries, cleaning supplies, water bottles, etc. The AC was cold, the water was hot and we didn't even have to use any of the bug spray we brought (hardly any mosquitos and we were a little worried about that). We had a few questions leading up to arrival and always received prompt responses. The owners describe it very well and we were pleasantly surprised to find it was even nicer than we hoped for when we arrived, which is why we are giving it 5 stars. As stated by the owners... It's not a "5 star" place compared to a Ritz Carlton but it is a 5 Star place given the description. If you want a special, fun and memorable experience, I would definitely recommend trying it out. We will be back!"
