  • Superb Getaway!

"I arranged this stay for my son's bachelor weekend. There were 7 of us and the house could have easily accommodated more. In our advance planning, we had scheduled a day-long fishing trip and another day at the beach. Aside from the fishing trip, we pretty much kept to the house. I say this because the house was so comfortably equipped that, along with its spaciousness, the pool and the view of the river, there was absolutely no need to go anywhere else. It was quite obvious that Rhett, the owner, has done this many times. Checking in was flawless and a very nice gift bowl of fresh fruit, wine, etc. awaited us inside. We did a bit of cooking and grilling and like our accessories. We lacked for nothing in this regard and the kitchen was amply equipped. The pool-side grill was as big as a full-sized Webber Summit and the 6-burner gas range and oven was quite nice. There was also a full spice rack. The property was unbelievably equipped. There were three full size refrigerator/freezers (one in the kitchen and two in the garage), three waist-high refrigerators (two in the pantry and one pool-side), three dish-washers, board games, backgammon sets, feeding bowls for pets, etc. The bathrooms were amply supplied with wash cloths, towels, hand-soap, body wash, shampoo, etc. As an ex-submariner, it was nice to see the attention to detail. I noticed a previous review indicated that it was a bit of a trek to the nearest grocery store. I have family in the area and knew the closest store was about 20-30 minutes. Knowing that in advance, we planned ahead and picked up supplies on our way in. All-in-all, we had an incredible stay. Considering how large and well-appointed the house is, this would be a great place to come for a week-long family retreat. I found out during our fishing trip that the trout and flounder fishing available from our dock was excellent. Alas, we had no days left at that point. Final comment . . . Bravo Zulu to Rhett for providing well-appointed, excellent accommodations."

  • Better than Expected!

"Our family owns a villa on the Plantation but due to construction in our building we opted to rent a condo for a recent visit. I chose this particular unit (based upon location, size and decor) after previewing many others on VRBO. The condo did not disappoint. Very well maintained, tasteful, calming decor (LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the flooring), spacious floor plan and balcony. The view was amazing. The building is located just a few steps from the beach and a short scenic stroll to the hotel. The management company (thanks again, L) was so friendly and pleasure to work with. After this enjoyable stay we are considering purchasing a villa for ourselves in Sand Castles."

  • Great for a girlfriend getaway

"Three friends rented the house for a week, and had a very nice time there. It is well-configured for friends, multiple couples, or families. The beautiful beaches are a very short walk, as is the pool. The street is very quiet and there is limited noise from busier Amelia Island Parkway to the rear. A shaded walking/biking path is right there, and goes all the way from the Ritz-Carlton (to the north of the house) to the island's southern tip along the Parkway and A-1A. Lots of beach toys, boogie boards, etc. in the garage. If it were my house, I would also provide some new beach chairs in a mix of heights for younger and older renters. That said, the place could use a good exterior neatening up, and an interior updating and freshening up, thus my rating. If you rent here, I would highly recommend a day trip to Cumberland Island (look at the website before you commit) especially if you are a hiker, a walking tour of historic downtown Fernandina Beach, and a dinner at Espana in Fernandina, along with dinner by the water at Brett's. Bicyclists will enjoy the area as well. This was my third stay on Amelia, and my second in the Summer Beach area, which, while most communities are gated as this one is, doesn't feel as self-contained as the Plantation."

  • Fabulous!

"Our son was getting married on Amelia Island and we had family coming in from all over. We wanted a place large enough to all stay together and this was perfect! The pictures do not do this place justice! Gorgeous home! SO MUCH ROOM! We had 15 adults sleeping there and sometimes up to 25 people having dinner together and we never felt crowded! There are two separate living areas so the younger crowd can do their thing in one while the older crowd does theirs. Kitchen is more than you could ask for! Bedrooms are large and all have huge closet space. Beach access is directly across the street. I could go on and on! We had a wonderful week here. The elevator is a wonderful addition to be able to bring groceries and luggage up without climbing stairs. We also had someone in a wheelchair and the elevator was a perfect addition. If you are planning a trip with lots of family, this is the place!"
